At the offices of Judd Risk Management, senior investigator Harlan Judd has a meeting with new client Bob Kagan and agrees to take on his case. Primary investigator Nora Gage begins a 72-hour surveillance operation. Also, Harlen is in legal trouble for punching former employee Terry Laguna. Meg Bardo is given more responsibility at work. Co-workers Jeff McCann and Trish Agermeyer make love in a car, and Harlan suspects there is a mole in his company. Trish's husband enlists Jeff to help uncover the identity of the man Trish has betrayed him with, unaware that it's Jeff. Nora is keeping secrets, and Jeff wants to resume the affair with Trish. Later, after a confrontation, Jeff is in danger.

Meanwhile, Harlan's (Tim Daly) soon-to-be ex-wife, Kendall (Kate Walsh), moves back to Los Angeles, and Meg (AJ Langer) tries to prove herself as a lead investigator on a pro-bono case for a friend who has stumbled upon a cache of stolen money.

Meanwhile, Jeff (Eric Mabius) manipulates a fellow Judd Risk Management employee to gain access to privileged information about the firm for his own gain.

Whistleblower

Cynthia Garret (Tricia O'Kelley) hires Harlan Judd's team to whistleblow on a pharmaceutical company which didn't go through all the necessary tests before the FDA can approve a drug.

Episode 7

Burglary

Harlan (Tim Daly) works with a former colleague and a reluctant Las Vegas detective to uncover a counterfeiting scheme and burglary ring.

Episode 8

Karma

After subcontracting out a bodyguard job to old friend Jimmy Doyle (Brian Goodman), Harlan (Tim Daly) finds himself questioning Jimmy's sobriety after a murder occurs on his watch, and Jimmy can't remember a thing.

Episode 9

Innocence

Leslie Town (Laura Leighton) asks Harlan (Tim Daly) for his help in a criminal case she just landed. The trial is three days away and they need to verify Magar Zakarian's (Shaun Duke) alibi. Harlan refuses at first because Zakarian's alibi will most certainly be shot down by the prosecution but when Leslie promises dinner, he cannot resist. Meanwhile, the firm is hired by a woman who wants to know if her husband is cheating on her.

Episode 10

Poison

Harlan accepts his friend Attorney Sam Solomon's case: investigating how Green Valley Industries' use of PCE to clean its machinery gets into Lake Duro, causing serious kidney and liver diseases for most local people at Pine Ridge in California, including his medically uninsured client Adriana Escobar and her 9-year-old son Alex. Harlan's firm Judd Risk Management (JRM), is in financial trouble, so instead of a perilous loan from arrogant bank CEO Clay Burgess he is offered a bet by Harlan: win the case and keep $2,000,000 Burgess's firm advances or hand over Judd Risk Management. Green Valley's Tom Cavallero denies it convincingly, but the team keeps digging into private lives till it all ties together.

Episode 11

Art

The firm is in serious financial trouble, and Harlan (Tim Daly) must begin firing employees. When three Van Gogh paintings are stolen from an exhibit, Harlan makes a deal with insurance adjuster Vanessa Leary (Rebecca McFarland) to recover the paintings for a fee. Harlan meets with FBI Agent Matthew Hale (Richard Burgi), while Nora (Garcelle Beauvais) and Trish (Natalie Zea) figure out how the paintings were stolen.

Episode 12

Investigator

After subcontracting out a bodyguard job to old friend Jimmy Doyle (Brian Goodman), Harlan (Tim Daly) finds himself questioning Jimmy's sobriety after a murder occurs on his watch, and Jimmy can't remember a thing. Leslie (Laura Leighton) is assigned to determine if Jimmy is a black-out drunk or cold-blooded killer but butts heads with Harlan and his not-so-legal methods.
