Episode 1
A multidisciplinary team examines the activity and local impact of the volcano Mount Nyiragongo in Congo's Virunga National Park, on the eastern border with Rwanda. The nearby large city of Goma is built with its material, but also periodically destroyed when its erupts, so an early warning system is needed. Descending toward the actual lava lake proves too dangerous, but technology helps out. Major effects are from toxic gas bubbles in the surrounding countryside and epidemics.
