Beyond the reason for bringing them together under one roof, Ken and Lester are still adjusting to their relatively new roles with each other with Ken as Lester's guardian. The two of them as immediate family is not helped by Lester's return to school and continually being bullied which is further driving him into his shell, and Ken able to admit to himself that he never wanted children of his own. Ken's issue is only highlighted in he meeting Luke. And Lester can only wonder more now about the father he has never known. Now alone in being an empty-nester, Anne discovers that her time is at least partially taken up by Lou as she, upon hearing from Lou's home care nurse Peter about his deterioration, decides to be his home care nurse, it a better option in her mind than the alternative of sending him to a care facility.
Episode 2

Ken visits his mother, their relationship which takes on a different dimension with Claire no longer in the picture. Ken had only been awarded temporary custody of Lester pending Jimmy signing over his parental rights, that signed document which has not yet arrived in the lawyer's office. What Ken is unaware of is that Jimmy has not only not signed the document, but that he and Lester, on the latter's initiative, have reconnected much to Lester's seeming delight. Anne has taken over Lou's case as his care nurse, it not long until he discovers that her visit is not a casual one. In this official capacity, Anne will discover Lou's general state. And she continues to have her chance encounters with Joy without telling Joy who she is.
Episode 3

Because of the accident which could have been much more disastrous, Anne has Lou mentally assessed, which he resents. The assessment doesn't stop Lou's daydreams of his time as a young adult which led to the accident. Feeling stretched in her life in having to deal with Lou and getting a tearful telephone call from Maggie, Anne attempts a reconciliation of sorts with Doug on his initiative. And in visiting with Jimmy, she learns of the reconnection he has made with Lester. The one person who does not yet know of that reconnection is Ken in Lester's lies about spending time with friends down by the river and in what Ken believes are his somewhat successful attempts to bond with his nephew. And Lester's relationship with his father is what Lester believes he wants in a buddy in having no friends rather that a true parental figure.

Ken and Anne both feel the need to confront their respective fathers, Ken in wanting some security for a future for him and Lester, especially important now that Ken knows that Lester dreams of living with Jimmy, and Anne in trying to understand why her life has turned out the way it has. The issue with Lester is made all the more difficult when he comes to understand some of the realities of farm life. Without Lester present, Jimmy demonstrates his fitness to be Lester's guardian. Based partly on those parental encounters, Ken and Anne turn to others. Lou, now living in a nursing home, fights his adjustment to this new living situation when lucid, and falls back into believing he living in the past when not lucid.

Episode 5

Nothing seems to be going right for Ken in trying to eke out a life for himself and Lester on the farm, Ken believing he losing Lester emotionally and in terms of the custody. Lester, in turn, gets to the breaking point on many fronts, and as a result may seek out some stability. Meanwhile, Anne spends some extended time in Toronto in her visit with Maggie, which allows her to make some decisions about her future. And Lou, in his continuing decline, tries to come to terms with his past and thus what little future he has left.
