While his dumb body guard Rachel watches his back he works out the purpose must be to re-create a rich parent's recently deceased son, and who makes the perfect suspect...

As if this challenged weren't enough, he finds another scientist handles the case irresponsibly.

Richard Adams, a former friend who broke with professor Ian Hood after a girl matter, claims to have made the greatest ever discovery in climate change, but behaves paranoiac towards everyone including Hood, encrypts all his findings and has nothing published by the time he disappears. Hood must try to break the code and find out what happened to Adams, who is found dead at a bridge where men commonly jump as a form of suicide. Hood believes to know which powerful interest groups wanted to stop Adams' research being published at any cost.

When the press reports a miraculous cancer cure case in the village of Clayton, reported by the boy patient Alphie's female doctor Williams, Ian Hood is eager to disproof the fable, as it makes people believe vital therapy isn't their best option. When he starts examining the water, the MD declares other cancer patients who drank it got worse! Still extensive examination of the entire course of the water supplying the well reveals nothing, even though there are a fertilizer - and a hydro-electric plant. He long believes there is nothing to prove, but then Dr. Wiliams is found 'suicided' with contraindications and Alphie's father declares his so-called cancer was a paid hoax, he is determined to uncover the plot- indeed the boy is kidnapped to cover up the truth, which is however not in the water but has something to do with radio-activity...
