Meg and her spiritually-obsessed cousin Bunny return early from their gap year in India to be met by their brassy best friend Laura - and also Meg's ex-boyfriend Mark, who refuses to believe they are through. Back home Meg's parents are more pleased with the fact that her brother James has a work promotion than to see her and demand she gets a job and pays rent. Mark has in fact moved everything out of her room into a flat he insists they share so she moves in - making it clear that the arrangement is strictly platonic. In the pun Laura introduces Meg and Bunny to her boss Malcolm, who gets them jobs as living mannequins - or rather dressing in silly costumes to hand out promotional flyers.

Meg's date is a catastrophe as she is nervous and shows herself up, mentioning the scabies so Laura, in order to cheer up both Meg and a depressed Bunny, gate-crashes a party with them. In fact it is actually a wake but Meg does get to bed the deceased's handsome brother Barney and even gets a call from Nick, suggesting a second date. Unfortunately she lets herself down again by throwing up in front of him - and she gets scabies. For Bunny however the wake clears her depression as she feels positive after serenading the mourners.

Meg actually gets to join them in a broadcast but gets carried away by her efforts to emulate their laddish humour and the internship ends, landing her back on the streets with Malcolm.
