A woman reports her husband missing to police, and Sgt. Friday and his partner respond. Correspondence is found, suggesting the husband has been talking with an old girlfriend from Montana, where he grew up. He has told his wife, he desperately wants to move back to Montana, but his wife thinks the city life (Los Angeles) is better for their family. Friday and his partner finally discover the husband was to meet the old girlfriend in Las Vegas. No mention is made of the husband deserting his wife and son, but lots of mention is made of the wife's wanting to stay in LA, instead of just agreeing with her husband's decision to move. When they track down the girlfriend in Vegas, it turns out he has run out on his promise to meet her there, instead staying in Montana. Despite this man being an habitual deserter, Friday, his partner, and the wife's brother, constantly chastise the wife, telling her, it is her fault that her husband left her, and her son. Friday tells her there are many ways to support a husband, and one is to support his decisions, even if you think they are wrong. She promises to shape up, and packs her bags for Montana post haste. Lots of outdated and sexist tropes permeate this story.
