Don't Quit Your Gay Job Season 3 Episodes

Season 3 Episode Guide

5 Episodes 2014 - 2014

Episode 1

Lifeguard

26 mins

Rob and Sean are now passing the reigns of the actual doing of the activities to Tommy D and Adam, who have no idea what their jobs are going to be, but who will also get $500 for each win on top of the bragging rights. Up first for Tommy D and Adam is the job of lifeguard. Lifeguard and lifeguard instructor Michael Miller goes through the fundamentals with them, including the fact that ninety-five percent of a lifeguard's time is spent scanning the area, which Tommy and Adam equate to the fundamentals of cruising in a bar without the pickups. Michael shows them some skills associated with some more critical incidents such as use of a spine board, rollovers in water without moving the victim's neck, and swimming with an unconscious person which is basically dead weight. Because of the potentially life and death situations involved in actual lifeguarding, Tommy D and Adam are given simulations for their actual lifeguarding day. Who their customers are may throw them for an additional loop. Beyond the skills, Adam is equally as concerned about being able to wear non-regulation attire.

Interior Designer

26 mins

In learning the fundamentals of being interior designers, Tommy and Adam are under the tutelage of interior designer Nelson Culligan, who explains that interior design is not just limited to decorating, but anything that is considered non-structural to a space. Other aspects that they will be judged on is functionality, which requires them to know as much about the space as possible, and knowing what the client wants. Tommy hopes that the fact that the client is Dave Lombard, a friend of Adam's, won't prejudice the final outcome. The space they are each provided are two different secondary bedrooms in Dave's west coast styled house, that style which he wants maintained in each room. What will impress Nelson and Dave the most is if the boys actually listen to what Dave wants, and if they don't copy exactly what they see in the furniture showroom. The choice of winner may come down to if they pay attention to the smaller details, how they cope with the unfamiliar (i.e. hardware), how they deal with last minute emergencies, and how they deal with purposeful sabotage.

Episode 3

Flight Attendant

26 mins

Tommy D and Adam are figuratively packing their bags for their next job challenge in learning how to be flight attendants. They head to Eton College where they will take what is usually the three month flight attendant preparation course in one day. The first half of their day is typical course work in learning the ins and outs of the job. The second half entails some role playing in carrying out some of the more specific functions required of the job, such as going through the safety demonstration. On the second and final day, they will go through a flight simulation with a dozen or so passengers. The passengers include several special attention passengers, such as a visually impaired person, a mother with an infant and an unaccompanied minor, each who has their own unique set of needs. But it may be the generally disruptive by nature passengers that will give the boys their biggest problem. They both feel they have an inherent sense of the job being frequent fliers, and paying attention to what flight attendants do within that captive environment. They also believe that walking into the simulation Adam will have the upper hand in customer service skills, while Tommy will have the upper hand in dealing with emergency situations. If that scenario plays out, it may be the small things, such as an errant comment, that will decide the winner, or in such a case the loser.

Episode 4

Latin Ballroom Dancer

26 mins

Going into their challenge of learning how to Latin ballroom dance - most specifically salsa - Tommy and Adam already know that Tommy has the upper hand as the one who is naturally more rhythmic. As such, Tommy enters with a bit of bravado. After learning the basic steps as singles, they learn part of what will constitute their final judgment on day two is a partnered and somewhat complex for beginners dance, which places a whole new perspective on the competition, as they both realize they not only have to worry about themselves, but what they are doing with someone else on their arms. And it isn't until the end of day one that they find out that the judgment day involves dancing in a roomful of seasoned dancers all doing the same dance as them. They are not only concerned with the dance itself, but how they look and feel, both in their practice attire as well as their ballroom competition attire. But the winner may come down to the person who ends up being the more well rehearsed, and thus more comfortable with himself on the dance floor.

Episode 5

Firefighter

26 mins

Going into their next jobs as firefighters, both Adam and Tommy believe that Tommy has the upper hand purely due to his physical size, especially in their perception that upper body strength is important. Before they get to those physical aspects with their training team from the Surrey Fire Department, they are given a pop quiz on aspects of fire safety, which they should know as part of the job. They do get into those physical aspects of the job, which do include those strength related tasks, but they are also required to deal with aspects of the job about which many people have general fears, such as heights and claustrophobia. They are then given training in on-street aspects of the job, such as specific issues of the fire truck, including the hose, and dealing with the fire hydrant. But who wins the competition will probably come down to the challenge on day two, dealing with a simulated fire call, which includes putting out an actual fire in a building.
