Bill Murray became a national celebrity when he joined the cast of the long-running TV show Saturday Night Live in its early years. His foray into the big screen began in 1979 when he starred in the comedy film Meatballs. This movie likewise launched the career of its director, who would later cast Murray in other films that became box-office hits. It includes Stripes in 1981 and Ghostbusters I and II in 1984 and 1989, respectively. He won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA and got an Oscar nomination for his lead role in the 2003 drama-comedy film Lost in Translation. Bill Murray is known for his unpredictable temper and mood swings. His close friend and fellow actor Dan Aykroyd even gave him the moniker "murricane". There were several stories about him having friction with co-stars and even producers in some of his film and TV projects.
