Outside the school, Auther catches up with his sister, Stephanie, who wants nothing to do with him. He is one grade below her and lives with their mother in a different house, taking her maiden name. Stephanie changes into more adult clothing and applies make up in the school bathroom before class. The boys seem to enjoy her new look, and, as long as the attention garnishes her more votes for class president, she does not mind. Some girls are upset about it, especially Voula, the good friend that helped her most closely throughout the campaign. Their friendship is fractured when whimsical Stephanie publically thanks Joey for his help in the election instead. This leaves Stephanie unable to obtain Voula's help to write an unexpected speech for a PTA meeting. A frazzled Steph turns to Joey for help and is initially grateful, but soon realizes that his style would be too unprofessional. In the end, despite her self-centered attitude, she is relieved when her brother kindly offers to help her write the speech.
