Episode 1
David Copperfield tells the story of his life that holds great happiness and terrible sorrow, starting with the circumstances of his birth.
Episode 2
Mr. Murdstone has now entered the scene, forbidding David to associate with his best friend Peggoty. They soon develop a mutual hatred of each other, and later David is sent away to the Salem House School run by a cruel headmaster.
Episode 3
Mr. Murdstone puts David to work in his London wine business. David boards with the Micawbers who live in desperate but genteel poverty, under constant harassment from creditors.
Episode 4
The Micawbers are about to be taken to a debtor's prison. David decides to run away to his only surviving relative, Aunt Betsey. The Murdstones came to take David away, but Aunt Betsey roughly sends them away.
Episode 5
Aunt Betsey sends David to a public school where during term time he lives with her lawyer Mr. Wickfield. The widower and his daughter Agnes welcome David's company.
Episode 6
After meeting his old school friend Steerforth at an inn, David takes him on a visit to Yarmouth to see his friend Peggoty and her husband Barkis and her family.
Episode 7
David has fallen in love with Dora, the young daughter of his employer Mr. Spenlow. After capturing her attention at her birthday party, David is hoping that Dora will return his affection.
Episode 8
Ham reveals the news that his bride-to-be Emily has run away with Steerforth. Mr. Spenlow has discovered David's letters to Dora and has forbidden David from seeing her anymore.
Episode 9
After the death of Mr. Spenlow, Dora and David marry. Traddles enters the law business and begins investigating the affairs of Wickfield and Heep.
Episode 10
After Dora's death, David's life seems empty and meaningless. After a period of unhappy wandering he returns home to the end of an old friendship and the beginning of a new life with Agnes.
