As a last resort, he used a device to inject his own body with the DNA of a plant. At first seemingly unsuccessful, it not only gave him the ability to gain nutrients from the sun, but literally changed him into a half-duck, half-plant creature. He was hoping to prove his success to the others, but all but Dr. Dendron ridiculed his new form. However, he soon found his new body had given him mental control over other plants, and used them to take revenge on his aggressors one by one. Darkwing Duck and Launchpad were called onto the case and met with Dr. Dendron, who still believed Reginald wasn't truly evil. Overhearing this, Bushroot believed she actually loved him, and used his powers to abduct her to his greenhouse, hoping to turn her into a plant as well. This left D.W. and L.P. with the task of rescuing her and putting a stop to Bushroot's rampage.
