Trevor Hale is attractive, witty, and uncommonly intelligent--and he may be Cupid, the Greco-Roman god of erotic love. Probably not, but he thinks so. Trevor's insistence that he is Cupid lands him in a mental hospital, where he meets psychologist Claire Allen, a renowned authority on romance. Trevor tells Claire that he has been stripped of his godly powers by Zeus, and exiled from Mount Olympus as a punishment for arrogance. To win his way back among the gods, Trevor must unite 100 couples in everlasting love--without his bow and arrows. Claire does not believe in Cupid, but she risks her career by releasing Trevor from the hospital and assuming responsibility for his behavior. Trevor finds work as a bartender, and regularly disrupts Claire's group therapy sessions, all while he plots his campaign to promote romance, and earn his way back to Olympus. While encouraging sexual abandon in others, Trevor remains celibate, believing that engaging in sex with a mortal will confine him to Earth forever.

It took a bit longer than anyone would have liked, but in mid-November CBS finally gave a green light to a full season of Gary Unmarried (Wednesdays at 8;30 pm/ET), its freshman sitcom starring Jay Mohr and Paula Marshall as exes dealing with new significant Os. Pilot News: Paulson Puts Cupid on the Couch

Sarah Paulson, whose last regular TV gig was on Studio 60 and who next can be seen on the bigger screen in Frank Miller's The Spirit, has landed the female lead opposite Bobby Cannavale in ABC and Rob Thomas' reboot of Cupid, says the Reporter. Paulson will fill "the Paula Marshall role" of a psychiatrist specializing in affairs of the heart. — Matt Mitovich

Meet the new Jeremy Piven. Bobby Cannavale, an Emmy winner during his run on Will & Grace and an upcoming guest star on Cold Case, will play the epitome of a "wing man" as the star of ABC's Cupid pilot. ABC's in Love, Greenlights Rob Thomas' Cupid

Criminy, run and buy a lottery ticket, Rob! On Thursday, just hours after news broke about the Veronica Mars creator possibly bringing Beverly Hills, 90210 back to life for the CW, ABC gave a green light to the pilot for Thomas' new version of Cupid, the romantic comedy he gave the tube back in the '90s. Back then, Cupid starred Jeremy Piven as a man who believed it was his mission to help Zeus boost romantically challenged mortals. Veronica Mars Boss in Love with Cupid Again

ABC has pacted with Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas to develop a new version of Cupid, Thomas' short-lived yet well-liked 1998-99 series about a man who believes he was sent to Earth by Zeus to assist romantically challenged couples. "For the last couple years, I've been talking to ABC about how to do an anthological romantic comedy à la Cupid or Love Boat," Thomas tells Variety. "We kept coming back to Cupid as the best of the group, so they said, 'Why not... do Cupid again?'"Thomas will now pen an all-new pilot, but stresses, "I'm not going to reinvent it. What they're buying is the show." That said, Jeremy Piven's titular role will, of course, be recast.

It seems that torturing wannabe singers with backhanded compliments and full-frontal insults just isn't enough for Simon Cowell and American Idol producer Ken Warwick. Starting April 6 in L.A., they'll be conducting casting calls nationwide for a new NBC reality show called America's Got Talent. "We are looking for performers of all ages in every talent category in hopes of finding that next big name in lights," Warwick tells the Associated Press. Adds Cowell: "This is the show I've always wanted to make." (Funny — I thought that show was Cupid.)
