A very skilled and famous skyscraper climber falls off the Empire State Building while attempting to scale it. Mac Taylor and Sheldon Hawkes (on his first field assignment) investigate the case. In another part of the city, Stella Bonasera and Danny Messer must solve the mysterious death of a famous designer found dead, wearing his latest creation which is a bra made of diamonds. Aiden Burn works solo on a rape case.

Aiden is more intent than ever to solve the rape case; so much so that she does the unthinkable, an action which forces Mac to fire her.

The man, however, did not die from drowning. He suffered a fatal allergic reaction.

They discover that the daughter went to same psychiatrist Darius went to. Horatio also seeks out the man who killed the woman Darius claims he killed. Mac learns that Henry might have something against the family of the girl he killed.

Just a few moments later, the doorbell rings; when one of the players looks through the peephole, expecting to see the recently departed cheater, he is facing the barrel of a shotgun and is instantly killed. Meanwhile, in Central Park, a TV weather girl is found dead on the ground. Autopsy reveals that she drowned, even though there is no water near the crime scene.

In an upscale apartment, Stella and Sheldon Hawkes examine the body of a waitress who had cancer. As opposed to the other crime scene, this room is in perfect order except for a spilled can of soup.

With Danny trapped inside, they have to find a way to get him out while a murderer is at large. Meanwhile, the body is decomposing from the heat which forces Danny to use old-school processing techniques.

Mac Taylor, arriving from a Mayor's reception in his tuxedo, and Lindsay Monroe join him. Stella and Hawkes investigate the death of a stockbroker found hanging from a noose out of the window of his fancy office. Not surprisingly, the hanging was staged as the man was strangled to death.

The investigation leads the detectives to a restaurant that serves exotic food such as centipedes, live octopus, and cockroaches.

The very healthy athlete died from a small puncture wound.

A man calls Mac to tell him about a body buried in New Jersey years ago. He kills himself after talking to Mac. Mac finds the body and discovers that the person was shot execution style. Mac finds the caller and learns he was a Tanglewood boy. Mac begins by talking to Sonny Sassone who doesn't tell him much. A cigarette found with the body has DNA on it which is identified as Danny's. Mac asks Danny what happened. He says that he was not one of the Tanglewoods but his brother was, and one night about the same time the man was killed he and his brother met the Tanglewoods and it appeared as if they has some guy with them whom they were roughing up. His brother made him leave and that was that. But there's nothing to back Danny's story so Mac relieves him of duty. Mac then talks to Danny's brother and doesn't admit to anything but swears he will find a way to help help Danny. Stella investigates the death of a man who appears to be seeing a call girl.

A limousine driver is shot dead inside his car, while a concert by Kid Rock is happening inside. Lindsay and Danny work on the case. Mac hears of a shooting at Stella's address over the police radio. He rushes to the scene where Stella is on the ground unconscious, while her boyfriend, Frankie, is found dead. Gunshot residue confirms that she shot him.

Moments later, another woman also claims that she is the dead man's wife. It turns out that these people were a "committed threesome." The Marine was highly decorated, having served in many campaigns. The absence of any defensive wounds is puzzling to Mac Taylor as the victim was a very strong, well-trained, and combat-hardened Marine. The second case involves a burnt body inside a car. Facial reconstruction reveals a shocking answer. The victim has a familiar face.
