Det. Michael Mocello investigates the murder of a maintenance man, the father of two children. His killer shot him in the back of the head before attempting to clean up the mess. Then he gave up and set fire to the man's apartment instead. The prime suspect: the man's nephew, whom a neighbor says his uncle feared. The clues: a tennis shoe-print made with bleach, another print on a fence and a gas can with a 7-Eleven sticker. The suspect's girlfriend has more clues in her apartment. The danger: the suspect used a 9mm semi-automatic, a weapon that has not been recovered. That means the suspect probably still has it on him, and may try to use it again.

Det. Conrad Simms, of the Richmond, Virginia Homicide Department, investigates the murder of a 21-year-old drug dealer nick-named Fat Daddy. His body is found in a vacant lot with a crack bag next to his hand. The suspects are two other dealers known as Goldmouth and Pac Man. Was the murder a drug deal gone bad? Or could Fat Daddy merely be the unfortunate victim of a stray bullet during a July Fourth celebration? Simms is determined to find out how it happened, who did it and why.

The maggoty corpse of a teenage Latino boy is found in a sewage pipe with two bullet wounds, one in his back and the other in the back of his head. The underwear around his ankles suggests that he was dragged in. It's up to two Cleveland homicide detectives, Det. Tim Entenok and Det. Joselito Sandoval, to catch his killer. A forensic entomologist determines the approximate time of death with the help of the maggots that formed on the boy's head. A medical examiner finds the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, detective work leads the police to their prime suspect - a teenage gangster and an ex-friend of the victim.

Richmond, Virginia. The mother of an eight-year-old boy is murdered in the apartment of her boyfriend. She has been shot at the foot of the stairs. The clues include a New York fried chicken box, a bloody footprint and duct tape. There are a few possible scenarios: conspiracy to commit murder, a robbery gone awry. The victim herself may have even faked a robbery and an abduction. It's up to the homicide detectives to find the truth and capture the killer.

And her evidence may implicate her other nephew, the victim's brother.

One man, 26-year-old Johnny Davis Jr., a father of five, pushes his brother, Justin, away. Then a bullet hits Johnny in the head. Johnny was always Justin's guardian angel: at the age of six he saved four-year-old Justin from a fire. Saving his brother's life again was his final gesture before becoming the victim of a homicide. Now, Det. Hank Veverka and his longtime partner, Det. Kathleen Carlin, are on the case. They soon learn that the weapon was an AK-47, an assault rifle. But finding the weapon itself, and the identity of the person who used it, will not be as easy.

A call comes in to Richmond 911. A man is banging on the caller's door and bleeding badly. Minutes after the police arrive at the apartment complex, the man is dead. He has been shot once in the back. His dead hand is clutching a dollar bill with an illicit drug rolled in it. Det. Jamie Baynes is the lead detective on this case. His job is to find out who killed a man unpopular in his neighborhood, not least because he's a thief.
