In a gray and hyper-controlled Milan, Diana and Luca are sent on a mission in Lugano to spy on a secret meeting between Manticore France and Manticore Germany. Not far away, Edo Zani - heir to Manticore Italy - receives a marriage proposal from the head of Manticore France, Cecile. Although his father tries to convince him to accept, Edo fears he will end up crushed between two such powerful figures. Diana offers him an alternative when she shows up at his door with the French half of the weapon and a plan to start an internal war in Manticore Europe, which would allow Edo to take over. In return, Diana wants to leave the organization and start a new life with her sister Sara and her family, who is about to move to Iceland. However, we discover who Diana really is when in the flashback we see her spending her youth investigating the mysterious plane crash that killed her parents. Until one day she meets Gabriele, a Citadel agent who offers her an important mission.

Diana and Edo team up, but Edo discovers that the French half of the weapon that Diana stole is a fake. Cecile tried to fool everyone and seize sole control of the weapon. Together, they decide to give half of the weapon to Weber - the German agent in charge of the exchange - so that when Manticore Germany discovers the deception, war will break out. But Cecile suspects that the Italians are behind the theft of her half of the weapon and launches a fierce attack on Manticore Italia, which puts Diana and her family in serious danger. In the flashbacks, Gabriele trains Diana to disguise and suppress all her emotions in preparation for her mission as a mole.

Ettore assigns Edo the mission of capturing Weber, who has been spotted near Palermo. Edo agrees, on condition, he can take Diana with him. Diana and Edo's mission leads them through a spectacular chase through the ghost town of Gibellina. The two spend the night on a beautiful beach near Palermo. Back in Milan, Ettore summons Edo to Villa Zani, where there's a terrible surprise waiting for him. In the flashbacks, Diana joins Manticore and carries out her first, sensitive mission as a mole.

After discovering that his son schemed behind his back, Ettore drives Edo out of Manticore and has Diana locked up in the cells in headquarters. But Edo, who designed Manticore Europe's security systems, manages to get into the cells and talk to Diana. Together they come up with a desperate plan to save themselves: they will convince Ettore to use Diana as a Trojan horse to penetrate the French headquarters and recover the missing half of the weapon. In the flashbacks, we witness the moment when Cecile breaks up with Edo, on the day the final attack against Citadel begins.

In Paris, Diana is delivered to Manticore France headquarters, as the Italian team launches their attack. But just as the mission is about to succeed, Diana has a chance to destroy the weapon that could pose a huge threat to the future of the world. Eight years earlier, Diana is forced to take part in the final attack on Citadel, during which she attempts to destroy some powerful technology to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands: the same Citadel technology that eight years later has been used to build the new powerful Manticore weapon.

A few weeks have passed, and Diana has left Manticore and is living free. She has reunited with her sister and together they close up the family home, before Sara, her husband, and her daughter leave for Iceland. But Diana still doesn't seem happy and reflects on Edo's proposal to remain in Manticore and change the organization from within. Meanwhile, the Zani impose their new power structure on Manticore Europe and dictate how control of the powerful new weapon that Edo has developed will be shared. During a final, crucial mission, the destinies of all the characters intertwine. But a memory from the past risks changing the future forever.
