Western China includes the Tibetan Plateau, a vast highland in the shadow of the Himalayas, also known as roof of the world or third pole, on amount of the largest inland potable water, feeding the Ganges and other rivers which over a billion people depend on. Traditional Tibetan culture is focused on its huge pastures for the yak, a bovine which can stand infernal frost. the species there are also well-adapted altitude specialists, like the snow leopard and pallas or manul, their favorite rodent preys like pika, and macaque monkeys in the forests.
