It's very busy in the kitchen and Gareth, as always not easily pleased, sacks yet another staff member. Tariq is the victim. Sous chef Alice makes it very clear she regrets his decision because the restaurant is ludicrously overbooked and the kitchen is desperately behind with orders. She wants to hire more staff. Gareth and Janice decide to look at some applications, but there's no one that piques their interest. Then Gareth hears one of the applicants worked under chef Gustave LaRoche at Le Provencal in Carterton. Gareth once ate in his restaurant twenty years ago and thought his goose liver brioche was miraculous. They decide to visit him.

Janice has been several days 'late' and thinks she might be pregnant. While slowly Gareth realizes Janice is sure, she brings up the subject of the finances of the restaurant. The bookings are great, but it still loses money. With a possible baby coming, there needs to a be a way to become more financially secure. Janice has already worked out a plan. She wants to bring in outside investors, visit the bank manager and let their child go to a private school. Gareth doesn't like any of these ideas.

Everton has got his hands on an excellent wild partridge. Gareth is impressed and wants to know his source. He makes an appointment with the man, Sidney Filkins. Gareth expects he's an authentic rural character. He doesn't like to be seen near hotels and restaurants though, so Gareth, Janice and Everton set off to meet him in the forest. Once again he acts very discreet. Gareth has to follow a hidden path, but finally meets Filkins. He's expensive, but money doesn't count when it comes to quality. Gareth buys 48 of the birds and the three return to the restaurant. Suddenly Gareth notices they are being followed by a police car.

Janice had to pull a lot of strings, but finally she did it: arrange for Gareth to appear on Anita Lawrence' hugely popular talk-show. Gareth is less enthusiastic. He'd rather be parboiled in a vat of wildebeest urine. Gareth finally agrees to go, only to refuse once again in the car. He thinks he's doomed after he reads she is known as the Mike Tyson, Lawsuit Lawrence and The Terminator of television, but quickly relaxes when Anita tells she's a foodie. Anita asks him who was most important in his life. Janice doesn't like what she hears. Meanwhile Everton announces to the kitchen staff he has moved to a new apartment.

It's 3 AM and Janice thinks she hears a burglar in the restaurant, but when Gareth goes to check it out, he finds Everton and Gustave cooking. To his astonishment Everton is working on his signature dish: a partridge terrine with a jelly of set wine gravy and a herby crust. Gareth has to admit it's absolutely sensational and, much to his dismay, is forced to put it on the menu. It doesn't end right there though. The terrine is very popular and Everton seems to become the center of the kitchen. Suddenly the press is getting very interested in him, while Gareth gets more angry at him by the minute.

Gareth thinks a personal life doesn't go well with a life as cook. He'd prefer to work on his pancakes instead of visiting their old friends Joe and Lesley as Janice really would like. Gareth also prefers that his staff don't have private lives either. Bringing them into the kitchen is certainly out of the question. That proofs difficult, the lunch is overbooked and Gareth finds his kitchen rather deserted. Crispin is away helping with the girlfriends his father overbooked, Donald is visiting his father who has been jailed for GBH. On top of that Debra is in tears, not because she's chopping onions, but because she feels heartbroken. This is going to be a very busy day for Gareth.
Episode 7

Gareth receives a letter from France. He's invited to cook at the prestigious Concours Gastronomique in Lyon, where he will represent England. He feels he's committed to go to fight French prejudice over the English cuisine. There's only condition however: he can only use English ingredients. Since Gareth wants to use a white wine sauce, that's a bit of a problem. Luckily he and Alphonse find an excellent wine, Chiltern Valley, Old Luxters. In Lyon the French teams make fun of him, especially after they hear he has English wine. Everton assures he has a spare bottle and Gareth lets one of the French chefs taste the liquid. When Gareth is preparing for the big moment, Everton has an unpleasant announcement.
