Episode 1

Insurance agent John Allen was strangled and thrown off a roof into a tree. On the way to the morgue, masked men intercept the ambulance and hold Castle and Lanie at gun-point to steal the corpse. Later, the corpse is found, again, but it had been cut open and the organs were removed. The widow refuses to consider infidelity and points at former colleague Max Haverstock. But it turns out both were fired eight months before and only Max got another job. Meanwhile, only the mayor and the chief prevent Becket from severing Castle's privileged ties with the NYPD. She gets Castle to agree that after this case, if she asks him to leave, he would and Castle agrees to the terms. So he takes risks to redeem himself after the trail leads to an underground poker game in Chinatown and Russian mobsters. But it may be Alexis who has the key to swaying Beckett's decision.

With the moon full, couples therapist, Ashley Cosway, is her husband, shot and words written on her face. When Castle, Beckett, Ryan and Esposito arrive and start to investigate, they get another call. Ryan and Esposito are sent to investigate the other murder. They find retired math teacher, Frank Anderson, shot in the park near his home. As both murders are being investigate separately, it doesn't take long before Castle has a bet with Ryan and Esposito on who can solve their case first. With evidence of restraining orders, infidelity, and rent-control and the only suspects each having an airtight alibi, both teams are at a lose. To confuse the matter even more, forensics indicates a mysterious link between the seemingly unconnected murders.

Devoted husband Travis, who moved for her from Ohio, is shocked the NYPD still didn't follow up on their complaints about a stalker who never actually threatened her, identified as croupier Will James, who has an alibi. Model Sierra Goodwin now gets the campaign, and secretly dated photographer Wyatt Monroe, who allegedly sabotaged Jenna's crucial photo-shoot.

Both Castle and Alexis add lyrics analysis to confusing facts about a possible band reunion involving her sister Sky, producer couple Ian and Bree Busch and ex-producer John McGinnis.

Caleb carried only one package, for Sally Niedermeyer, whose name the courier firm had written down incorrectly Shakir Nidal Mattar's; a name on a terror watch list. It was a package her nephew, Brian Thompson, had asked her to keep safe when he went to prison 10 years ago. Shortly after the call to have her deliver the package, he was killed by another inmate. The package contained proof that he was innocent even though he had confessed to the murder of Olivia which was being investigated by, then, Detective Roy Montgomery. This chain of events started when the money his family was receiving for his son's medical bills stopped coming. Castle's connections help investigating the original murder of Olivia, which soon points to the extremely wealthy and politically influential Wellesley family. But which one and why?

An anonymous, amused 'fan' calls the precinct to report his murder. The call is traced to Grand Central Station where the victim is found, shot with five bullets hand-marked to spell out 'NIKKI'. Two more calls turn up as many bodies, who's marked bullets finish the message with 'WILL BURN'. The FBI to get involved and Agent Jordan Shaw, arrives at the second murder scene. Castle recognizes her as she has solved several high-profile crimes. When he starts getting excited by all the high-tech 'toys' the FBI has and gets Agent Shaw's admiration for his help deciphering clues, Beckett starts to get a little jealous. An apparent solution proves to be just the beginning.

Castle worked out that Ben Conrad was a scape-goat, shot by the real serial killer. He was too late to prevent Becket's place being bombed, but she survived, having being in the bath at the time. Shaw's profile and databases lead to a likely suspect, Doherty, actually deceased: the new fake identity. The team stakes his place, but the killer expected them. He gets away, but is identified. Becket is barricaded in castle's home, but the killer captures Shaw. Only Castle manages to think like him and prevent a big bang finale.

Castle enjoys a hot affair with actress Ellie Monroe, who wants the part of Nikki in the upcoming Heat Wave movie. More studio politics increase the suspects lists while alibis are checked.

The robbery victim was Fred Cana, who works for untouchable crime king Victor Racine. Esposito believes Racine killed his previous partner, Isaac 'Ike' Thornton. Thorton was also accused by Internal Affairs as being the inside man for Racine to tip him off. IA Lt. Stan Holliwell gets involved after Ike's fingerprints are found on Finch's corpse.

Episode 22

A high profile chef is found frozen to death in the kitchen of a hot New York restaurant. Complications ensue when Castle and the restaurant owner, an old high school girlfriend of Beckett's, share an attraction. Meanwhile, Beckett's relationship with Det. Demming continues to grow.
