Henry and Carol start off the day arguing about the number of late nights at the Ding-a-ling club that he has been having. When Henry receives a letter from one of his recent affairs, Valerie, she writes that she will be sending him a letter each day. This sends him into a panic as he tries to intercept the mail from the postman. He manages to bribe the regular postman but doesn't take into account that could be a relief postman. Henry is forced come up with another way to intercept the mail before the letters eventually stop.

Henry's son has been threatened with expulsion from Windthrift School For Boys and so he heads to the school to see the principal. It turns out his son is running a gambling business at the school, complete with CCTV security. However, the reason for his expulsion is that his son took some paparazzi photographs of the maths mistress, Miss Dropmore, when she went skinny dipping in a pond. He was selling them at the school. Henry turns up the charm on Miss Dropmore and convinces her to drop the charges. He ends up in her room, but it was to no avail.

Henry and Carol are hungover after a charity ball the night before. He disappeared during the night and he has to think quickly to explain his long absence. His nosey neighbour, Mrs Kershaw, calls in and proceeds to interrogate Henry to his discomfort. It turns out the reason for his absence is Gloria, a fire-eater and stripper. Henry then arranges to meet Gloria for lunch. Things are going well until Mrs Kershaw arrives at the restaurant. To keep her quiet he goes around to her place to talk to her.

Henry is packing for his trip where he is to be the chief judge of the beauty contest for Miss European Dairy Produce 1973. Carol is very suspicious of his motives. During the rehearsals it seems obvious that Miss Germany (Miss Limburger Cheese) is willing to do anything to win and Henry is happy to oblige. He arranges to meet her later that night but their intentions turn out to be very different. However, it turns out all the other judges had a party with Miss United Kingdom and vote for her. Henry is in trouble and Miss Germany shows her anger.

Henry manages to get a contestant from Ulumba pregnant during a recent beauty contest, although she didn't reveal that he was the father. Then his partner returns from overseas with the news that he suspects his wife of having an affair. To find the evidence he bugged the flat. What the partner didn't know was that his wife is having an affair, but it is to Henry. Henry is desperate to find the recording and goes around to the flat to find the recording - unsuccessfully. He destroys the flat during the search.

Tessa is Henry's goddaughter and is visiting the Newhouses with her fiancé, Peter, just a few days before her wedding. She has always called Henry 'uncle' and he has trouble adjusting to the fact she is now a beautiful young woman. She turns up at his office the next day saying that she (and Peter) are sexually inexperienced and demands Henry sleep with her. He is reluctant but is blackmailed into the act. Come the time, Henry is unable to perform what she wants. However, the wedding and honeymoon both end happily and it seems Peter was not as inexperienced as she thought. But the question is, where did Peter get his experience?

Henry is suffering from impotence and he is worried about it being the end. Carol is not particularly sympathetic. In his self-indulgent state he gives Carol permission to have an affair, as long as it is not one of his friends. To recover, Henry tries to have an affair with Muriel and again fails. Suddenly, Muriel's husband turns up so Henry has to hide in the wardrobe. This leads to the farcical situation of how Henry is going to get out of the house, especially when the husband decides to have a day in bed.
