Everybody goes to Giles and Gloria's home for lunch, and it is a very impressive country mansion. Veronica and Marcello have returned from their holiday but Leslie is still not happy with them together. Jacko visits the Morellas and is told that he cannot marry Lucia as she is to marry somebody else. Paulette becomes even more mercenary and convinces Elmo to buy her a country house. Sandra's boyfriend, Johnny, has a job that means she will have to move after their marriage.

Elmo and Paulette go hunting for a country mansion. Everybody else can see that she is a gold digger but Elmo is blind to her motives. Veronica is very happy with Marcello but it causes her to make a mistake and send Jacko and Eric to the wrong address. However, whilst there they see Paulette with another man. Telling Elmo about her is one thing but getting him to listen is another. However, he sees her deceit for himself and sends her packing.

Jean and Eric announce that they are expecting another baby. Sandra and Jimmy have a row and Sandra is dismayed. When they try to reconcile they break up permanently. Veronica announces that Marcello is moving in with her and Leslie is very upset. Jacko helps a woman with her budgerigar and ends up inviting her for lunch and then dinner. Elmo, Leslie and Sandra almost have a competition to see who is the most depressed. Then Jean is upset when Eric says he wants a boy this time.

Giles and Gloria are in London for some shopping and to organise a party at Elmo's. Everybody goes to Giles' party to cheer up. Jacko's new girlfriend, Lynn, plays for a soccer team and he helps her with her practice. They are short of a player and Gloria volunteers to play, although she isn't happy with the team's colour scheme. She plays but knocks out another player when she is fouled. Jacko breaks up with Lynn because she is too serious about football.

Elmo buys a camera and wants to videotape people in the wine bar. Jacko suggests that Elmo make a promotional video for the wine bar instead. Jacko uses subterfuge to convince everybody to participate in the video. However, the final result is less than pleasing and everybody is unhappy with Jacko. Jacko has to change tack, and talks Elmo into doing a new video with him in it. Inspired, Elmo then starts writing a book of his adventures.

Eric and Jean decide to move house but Jacko is struggling to cope with the idea of having to move out, feeling that he should have been consulted. Jacko and Eric have trouble working together over the decision. Elmo comes up with a new way to insult women. He also offers to let Jacko stay at his place above the wine bar. Marcello proposes marriage to Veronica and she accepts. They intend to live in Sicily and are even prepared to let Leslie stay with them. However, Leslie is more concerned about how the news will affect her.

Elmo decides to give Leslie lessons in charm in his own manner. Veronica is having a lot of trouble selling Bainbridge's as a going concern. A businessman makes an offer for Bainbridge's but he won't be keeping the staff. Eric and Jean manage to sell the house. Elmo is unhappy, especially where women are concerned, and Jacko offers to take him out to help cheer him up. They go to a casino and Elmo has a winning streak, with the roulette table and also with the ladies attracted to his money.

Eric and Jean are packing up ready for the move. Veronica decides not to sell the business so that the staff will keep their jobs. She makes Sandra the new manager. Veronica and Marcello finally head off to Sicily, and Lesley finally accepts the decision. Elmo hires a boat and crew and takes off to the Mediterranean with the women he picked up at the casino. He makes Leslie the manager of the wine bar, which she accepts as long as she has a free hand. Jacko finally gets two tempting offers of a place to stay.
