Before the wedding can take place the vicar is rushed to hospital with appendicitis but Sandra and Jacko decide to hold the reception anyway. Lionel does nothing but complain about the catering whilst Elmo pays the price for stuffing confetti down Lesley's dress. Sandra also surprises Jacko by agreeing to go on the honeymoon with him whilst Eric sorts out another wedding date.

On 'honeymoon' in Barbados Jacko goes out of his way not to look at other women, leading Sandra to conclude that they should not marry at all if the commitment is stressing him out so much and they agree to remain good friends. Unfortunately Eric has already organized a second wedding to which everybody turns up. Jacko and Sandra have to make their announcement at yet another reception, after which Lesley wrongly suggests to Jacko that he called off the wedding because he still loves her.

Despite Lionel begging him to stay away from her Jacko takes Lesley for a drink and explains to her that he and Sandra mutually agreed against getting married and that she was not the cause. Gloria has split up with Giles, due to the class difference, and he is soon back dating Lesley, leaving Jacko exposed to the predatory attentions of Gloria.

Whilst Elmo turns his establishment into an African safari theme pub Jacko and Sandra make public the fact that they are just good friends. This exposes Jacko to Gloria's efforts to bed him but he is saved when Reg returns from Ilfracombe and is reconciled with Gloria. After a pep talk from Veronica Jacko believes that he should move on with his life and, much to Lionel's horror, opens his own painting and decorating firm over the road from him.

Sandra quits Lionel's firm to work for Splosh, Jacko's new business. Lionel is concerned that Eric will also desert him, following an offer from Jacko, and gives him more money as an incentive to stay, unaware that this is a trick on Jacko's part to help his brother-in-law and get one over on the smug Lionel. Elmo, hearing that his pub is to be demolished, decides to become a singer under the name of Tommy Hooligan and sends off a demo tape.

Unable to cope without Sandra or to keep another secretary Lionel is relieved when Veronica announces that she is to become his business partner. Elmo, having had his demo tape rejected, announces that he is off to Australia to buy a beach bar with his redundancy money whilst Sandra is now engaged to her new boyfriend. Splosh is thriving but Jacko still feels something is missing and pursues Julie to the isle of Wight, where he discovers that she is now married.
