13 Episodes 1986 - 1986
Episode 1
Womanizing Jacko and his naïve friend Eric are painters and decorators working for Lionel Bainbridge, who is aware of Jacko's reputation, though Lionel's wife Veronica is charmed by him. Against Lionel's orders Jacko agrees to a date with new secretary Sandra, though he also arranged to meet another girl, Katherine, in the same pub and has to divide his time between the two before being forced to come clean.
Episode 2
After being upbraided by Lionel because his flirting has cost the firm the contract with the local bank Jacko tries to come on to Lesley, a girl he sees playing tennis in a park. He is also banned from working at the convent after chatting to novice nun Celia but the ban is lifted after he persuades Celia - who was about to renounce her vows and flee from the order - to return to the convent. The elation is short-lived when Lesley proves to be Lionel's daughter and arrives at the office to see him.
Episode 3
Having realized that Lesley is Lionel's daughter whilst on a date with her in the pub Jacko makes a quick exit and Lesley, already dumped by boyfriend Philip, is not happy. Nor is Lionel, after Jacko has given him advice on taking Veronica out for a romantic evening in a classy restaurant - which is now a launderette. At least wheelchair-bound Julie is happy to be Jacko's friend - though no more.
Episode 4
After flirting with ticket collector Seraphina on the underground Jacko goes to paint the Conservative Club, where he sees Lesley refusing to get back with Philip. He confesses that he ran out on her because she was Lionel's daughter but, with the air cleared, she is happy to watch a video with him whilst her parents go out. Having let Eric and his wife Jean, Jacko's sister, down over baby-sitting, he takes them with him on an outing with Sandra, who is not best pleased.
Episode 5
Unlike Veronica, who finds Jacko charming, Lionel is desperate to break him up from Lesley and spends a fortune on paying for his daughter to go to New York. He is unaware that Lesley has already split with Jacko after he has chosen to go to tea with estranged brother Reg rather than fly to France for the day with her. The reconciliation with Reg is, however, short-lived, after Reg's wife Gloria makes a play for Jacko - again.
Episode 6
Out of hospital having had his tonsils removed Jacko's luck with the women seems to be failing. Even his old stand-by Sandra deserts him for Philip, to whom Jacko has given a pep talk. But Lesley returns from America declaring that she loves him, and Veronica, feeling neglected by Lionel, is also in an amorous mood.

Episode 7
Lesley tells Jacko that she has had time to think and loves him because he has made her see that she is really a spoiled brat. She wants to move the relationship on. At the same time Lionel is more concerned with securing a loan for the business through masonic contacts than in paying attention to Veronica, who turns to Jacko as a result. Jean is not sympathetic to Jacko's 'problem'.
Episode 8
Jacko is feeling stifled by the new, submissive, clinging Lesley and, although he turns down Lionel's bribe to stop seeing her, he tells her it is really over. Having also managed to escape a determined Veronica, Jacko asks the newly single Sandra out for an afternoon in the park, which they both enjoy. However Sandra refuses him sex saying it is meaningless without love and, as he walks home, Lesley comes after him but he refuses her.
Episode 9
Celia arrives at Jacko's flat, having left the convent but needing a place to stay for a couple of nights before returning to New Zealand. Though the relationship is platonic Lesley turns up and, assuming that Jacko is deceiving her with Celia, dumps him - as he wanted her to. Veronica seeks Jacko out and admits she was using him to make Lionel jealous, leading to Jacko telling his boss not to take his loving wife for granted - and Lionel even buying her flowers as a result.

Episode 10
Still fighting off the predatory Gloria Jacko is attracted to cricket-playing feminist Linda, who attends her keep fit class. At the same time Lionel loses his case containing the property of his local Masonic group, which turns up in Linda's sports bag. When she returns it to Lionel it gives Jacko the opportunity to ask her out but the date is ruined by Gloria's attempt to seduce Eric.
Episode 11
Lesley announces her engagement to Philip, which pleases Lionel, as Philip's father has money and can also provide Lionel with a cut-price extension. Jacko brings his shy but sweet stand-in date Natasha to the engagement party but he is not happy to see Sandra with Roy Hooper, whom he regards as shifty. Nor is Veronica happy with Lionel's social-climbing and his disregard for her so she decides to leave him.

Episode 12
With Veronica gone Lionel and Lesley are finding it hard to cope but their selfish attitude does not win them any sympathy from Sandra and Jacko. When Lionel gets drunk and leaves work early somebody steals the petty cash from the office. Jacko suspects Roy and tries to win it back from him at cards though he loses but when Roy gives Sandra the exact amount of money stolen without being told the sum his guilt is apparent and Sandra dumps him.

Episode 13
Lionel breaks down and admits that his selfishness drove Veronica away, producing a photo of them on honeymoon, which moves Jacko. He tells Veronica and the Bainbridges are reunited. Jacko also helps Sandra get a flat and advises the hen-pecked Philip, who stands up to Lesley and breaks off the engagement. In a fit of pique she tries to get Jacko sacked but Lionel, grateful to him for getting him back with Veronica, gives him a raise instead.
