Lisa Nova, a young filmmaker, arrives in early 1990s Los Angeles hoping to turn her short film into a feature and perhaps finally connect with the mother who abandoned her at birth. She meets Lou Burke, a once powerful producer who offers her a chance, on his terms, to direct a film under his banner. Meanwhile Lisa moves in with a friend, settles into the city's grinding uncertainty, and begins to sense that Lou's interest may have strings attached. At a glamorous party she encounters Boro, a strange woman holding a cat and offering help of a darker, mysterious kind. When Lisa learns that Lou has quietly reassigned the directing job to someone else and aggressively dismisses her concerns, she is pushed into making a radical choice, one that will lead her into a strange pact and open the door to supernatural retribution.
