Silver volunteers for the suicide mission, actually hoping it's just an escape scam, but proves invaluably shrewd. They just still be rescued from the Spanish guard commander's torture room, but the galleon is won. In Nassau, Captain Charles Vane claims his seat on the pirates council as master of the fort, yet refuses to do the garrison security job that Eleanor claims goes with it. nearly-generally hated badly beaten Jack literally sinks to public pissing pole, yet hopes to scam his way back with the brothel gang.

Silver fears for his faith when he and Flint are expelled back on Nassau, so he risks beatings by wittily exposing every potential conflict motive aboard. Darevil lowlife captain Ned Low demonstrates publicly how Eleanor's foolishness has weakened her to total loss of control: only Vane can save her now, and does so when it also proves her dependency on him, while he gathers men to control the fort. Rackham's plan to become the spider in the web trough brothel secrets seems to work. Young aristocrat Thomas Hamilton works out a daring plan to clean up the Antilles by good government and second chances for reformed pirates.

They recall how Lord Alfred Hamilton has his son Thomas committed to a lunatic asylum and and disowned Anne as adulteress to cover up Thomas's gay affair with the future Flint. Silver kept Billy chained to assess his attitude towards Flint, but now frees him. Jack saves his captaincy and brothel by accepting the crew's demand to discard Anne.

Flint grudgingly reneges on his promise to take the fort and eliminate Vane and abandons the raid on the Spanish gold, all to go along in Miranda and Eleanor's plan to secure 'ligitmacy' by returning the Carolinas governor's daughter. Jack Rackhams's maiden voyage as pirate captain turns nightmarish when a rival's stronger crew imposes pitiful sharing terms, so he risks a daring confrontation.

Billy proves priceless help, yet confides in Dufresne they must muster ten opponents to grab Flint and turn him over to the British for full pardons. Silver learns that Flint kept quiet that the Spanish gold ship crew is wiped out by a tropical disease, so he hopes to muster a secret expedition to retrieve it. Elenaor betrays Vane, liberating Carolina governor's daughter Abby for Flint and Miranda's amnesty project.

After Billy's trap eliminated the worst traitors, Flint prevails in the captains election, Hornigold leaves Nassau and Flint's ship sails to the Carolina port of Charles Town, but as the hostage warned on the way, the attitude towards pirates there is most unforgiving. Silver recruits Jack's small crew to attempt to collect the Urca gold, but ignores that a major trap is being laid. New madam Max's mother reveals to desperately isolated Eleanor the Urca plan, agreeing it's incompatible with the free Nassau dream they both adhere.

Vane has overtaken Silver's party and the Urca gold by surprise, but Billy refuses to defect from Flint's cause and Silver is hiding aboard with a few crew survivors. Hornigold and Dufresne's remaining traitors joined forces to seize Eleanor and deliver her to the Royal Navy for ten pardons. Just when Flint is ready to consider Carolina governor Peter Ashe's tricky condition, exposing his whole story in London, after an inspection of Nassau, Miranda realizes Peter was the one who betrayed the Hamiltons and them, reneges on the deal and causes the governor's men to kill her and capture Flint, whose execution is announced. Vane fears that would wreck Nassau's fierce combatant reputation and offers Billy an Alliance to save Flint.
