Episode 1
A day out surfing for Zoe and Dan takes a shocking turn when they are attacked by a Great White Shark leaving them with life-threatening injuries. Three years on and having been driven apart by the trauma - they are reunited when Dan returns to support Amber (Marny Kennedy) - a young surfer, who was also recently attacked. Rocked by Dan's sudden reappearance, Zoe tries to focus on solving the murder of a woman found dead on a beach, which just happens to be related to one of Dan's old cases. While Zoe has moved on with her life having fallen in love with Kristof (Damian Walshe-Howling), the psychologist who treated her during her recovery, there's no escaping the past when Dan re-joins the homicide unit. When an unidentified murder victim turns up, Dan has his interest piqued and begins to suspect that they may have a serial killer on their hands - a serial killer who is hidden in plain sight in the form of Stephen (Dominic Monaghan), a charismatic dog unit constable.
Episode 2
A man is stalked to his apartment where he is savagely stabbed to death. The sight and smell of blood at the scene dredge up unpleasant memories for Zoe and Dan. Since Dan's return, Zoe is completely unravelling, struggling to sleep and being haunted by flashes of the attack. This encourages her to consider a career move to the Federal Police, which she insists has nothing at all to do with Dan. While the investigation into the murder ramps up, Dan and Jim (Robert Mammone) continue their unofficial look into what they are becoming certain is serial killer who keeps teeth as trophies. Claire's (Darcie Irwin-Simpson) continued attempts at scoring a date with Stephen are hampered by mixed signals. Little does she know that he is becoming obsessed with her new housemate, Amber, and it's an obsession that he demonstrates he's prepared to go to any length for.
Episode 3
Zoe and Dan investigate the murder of a dentist and soon discover that the victim is a predator himself. It makes for a complicated investigation, with a long list of people that might want him dead. Zoe and Dan's relationship is becoming increasingly strained, especially when Dan shows a complete lack of respect for boundaries, prompting Kristof (Damian Walshe-Howling) to propose. Stephen's ambition to become a detective leads him to interfere with evidence at the crime scene which gives him a significant advantage when it comes to finding the killer. But when things don't go to plan, Stephen is utterly humiliated and he acts out his rage with deadly consequences.
Episode 4
A woman out for a jog accidentally records the horrific moment that she is set upon by an attacker who rapes and kills her. Zoe and Dan need to move fast as the murderer is certain to strike again but the investigation takes a surprising turn when their prime suspect is abducted. Closer to home, Zoe drops the bombshell of her engagement to Kristof (Damian Walshe-Howling) which makes Dan realise he needs to act before he loses her forever. While it doesn't go the way he had planned, a harmless conversation about the serial case leads to an unexpected moment. Meanwhile, Stephen is still hoping his application for the detectives and designs on Amber will come to fruition but when Amber plays matchmaker, she inadvertently puts Claire's life in grave danger. Dan and Jim (Robert Mammone) press hard to get a strike force set up without luck but Stephen might be about to give them the helping hand they need, setting a plan into motion to prove his superiority over the detectives once and for all.
Episode 5
An affluent couple are discovered brutally murdered on their yacht with their youngest son having narrowly escaped the same fate. For Dan and Zoe, a high-stakes crime is the welcome distraction they need as they deal with the fallout of their stolen kiss. They both try and pretend that it didn't mean anything, with Zoe continuing her plans to marry Kristof (Damian Walshe-Howling) and Dan embarking on a new relationship with a woman from Bite Club - Pia (Jessica Napier). The truth is that they have both been deeply affected by it. Stephen's big play in revealing the location of one of his victims triggers the commencement of the serial murder investigation leading to an unexpected and welcomed offer. But when Kristof profiles him as sexually impotent, Stephen goes on a date with Kate (Pia Miller) with a point to prove.
Episode 6
As pressure mounts due to Zoe's impending marriage to Kristof (Damian Walshe- Howling), Zoe and Dan investigate the murder of a man found floating in a sea pool. The burden of the lie is taking its toll on Zoe and she's struggling with whether or not to come clean to Kristof. When Dan visits Zoe's apartment, the kiss becomes the least of their worries and Zoe is left with no choice but to tell Kristof the truth with devastating consequences. Meanwhile, the strike force is getting much too close for comfort making significant progress in identifying Stephen. He is left to desperately clean up his tracks and makes a bold move to incriminate one of the detectives to get the heat off him once and for all.
Episode 7
A young woman drowning in the surf is pulled to safety only to die moments later, drawing Zoe and Dan into an intriguing homicide case. Zoe's still reeling from the end of her relationship but is forced to work with Kristof (Damian Walshe-Howling) and Dan as pressure mounts on the strike force to get a result. Stephen (Dominic Monaghan) is relishing his role in the investigation and while the other detectives are distracted by their personal issues, he's able to manipulate the investigation as he pleases. Just as the strike force finally nails the killer's MO and narrows their search for him, the investigation is thrown into utter chaos when Pia's body turns up and all the evidence points to Dan.
Episode 8
Suspended from duty and rapidly running out of time to prove his innocence, Dan is thrown a life-line when approached by a young woman who suspects her sister was murdered. He quickly comes to realise that there is a link to the serial killer and finds a critical clue which finally unmasks Stephen. Zoe (Ash Ricardo) too works out that the killer has been amongst them all along and desperately searches for the damning piece of evidence she needs to make an arrest. As the net closes in around him, Stephen is forced to make a final play for Amber (Marny Kennedy) putting Zoe and Dan in the line of fire. But will Dan be able to overcome his greatest fear to the save the woman he loves?
