The plot begins with a strange story in which the investigator of the IC Gleb Tochilin is trying to figure out before retiring. He must find the body of Alexei Bystrov, who disappeared from the morgue, who was hit by a train, and the next day ... got up and left on his own two feet. In search of a "living corpse", Tochilin is helped by an employee of the Brain Institute Yulia Demina, whom the missing person rescued from under the wheels of a train.
