Vilhelm Beck's patrol is the first to arrive. Haunted by his memories as a hostage, Vilhelm soon begins his own investigation into the case, which leads to a surprising contact with the Beck group.

The victim turns out to have connections to the digital university Howl, which investigates the role of men in a changing world. At the same time, the case is linked to an older investigation into the "Balcony Man", which brings Martin Beck back to the department.

A pastor has died in an arson attack at one of the Pentecostal movement's parish halls. When Alex and Josef arrive, she discovers that the other pastor in the congregation is someone from her past.
