Eight Australian geeks arrive in Las Vegas, where they are paired up with eight American beauties. The Geeks have to bare all when they star in the Thunder From Down Under strip show, and the beauties are tested on what they know about Australia when they give a five-minute talk on a topic, with the top two beauties having to answer questions from Olivia Newton-John before she decides the winner. The winners of the two challenges each decide on one team to save from elimination, with the other teams competing in a four-way quiz in which the first beauty and first geek to correctly answer a question are safe. The two remaining teams then compete in a showdown from which the couple with the lowest score is eliminated. The eliminated geek becomes the first to be made over.
Episode 2

The seven remaining beauties and geeks return to Sydney, Australia and move into the new-look mansion. The geeks take part in a social experiment when they have to passionately kiss a stranger, with the beauties watching in secret. Seven Australian beauties, the "strangers" kissed by the geeks, arrive at the mansion and go out on dates with the geeks. The American beauties participate in a maths challenge in which they have to recite their three times tables while they are in a tank filled with creepy crawlies, with the winner forcing their geek's Australian beauty to be sent home. At the end of the week, the other six geeks decide whether their American or Australian beauty will join them for the remainder of the series.

The premise of the show consists of a group of "Beauties" (young women who have relied primarily on their looks) and a group of "Geeks" (young men who have relied primarily on intellect rather than social aptitude or looks) who are paired up to compete as couples for a shared $250,000 and other prizes. (For the fourth season, the producers modified the formula to include an extra team consisting of a male "beauty" and a female "geek". For the fifth season, the beauties and geeks competed against each other at first, and teams of one beauty and one geek were not selected until the end of episode three.) Each beauty lives together in a room with her geek during the course of the competition. There are challenges shown each episode, one testing the beauties on a primarily academic subject, and another that has the geeks competing in a more popular/social realm.
