A woman has an immediate response to a friend's rhetorical question. And with Lavinia and Austin by her side, Emily Dickinson is on her deathbed, Jane, a stenographer, who has been hired to record her final words.

Two coworkers discuss if a third has a burst blood vessel as that third assumes, or if she instead has pink eye caused by fecal matter. Three women seated in a row at a coffee bar can't help but notice the car sound emanating from a fourth's laptop. A teenage girl wishes her father would teach her how to drive instead of her mother. Getting drunker as the evening progresses in dealing with a bad date with someone she met online, a woman, who has been continually sneaking into the ladies room to confide in her "mirror" self, eventually gets some help in the matter once and for all. Four women in four different situations have those middle of the night thoughts which prevent them from falling asleep. A woman is overly explicit to the customer service rep why she is returning her recently purchased Lego, which in turn emotionally affects the customer service rep. Two men carrying out a hit are interrupted by two women also carrying out a hit, the latter who believe they have more of a right to doing it at this time and space. And in the middle of winter, Paul and his wife are at the cottage in lending it to a new member of the firm and his wife for the weekend.

Because of what has been printed in the media, company executives discuss the probability that they have a whistleblower amongst themselves. A nervous public speaker, Sandra has been taking improv classes to bolster her confidence in preparation to make a speech at her mother's funeral. At a murder trial, the judge calls the two lawyers to the bench on matters of objections, while she really has something else on her mind. Is listening to audio books the same as reading? A mother with her child and another woman in the park exchange social niceties about the crying child among other things. In reading an article, one of two women doing research in a quiet library can't help being reminded of the most disgusting video she's ever seen. A woman, with a group of friends trying on clothes at a store, comes to a realization about reaching the next phase of her life. Kate, a downer of a woman, is invited to the lakeside cabin with "friends" for a reason. With nobody looking, Julia finally decides to photocopy her derriere with negative consequences. And Maude wants to declutter her kitchen cupboards of all the plastic containers which are taking over.
