Change is in the air in Ballykissangel with the arrival of a new priest, Australian Father Vincent Sheahan. His first challenge is finding the perpetrators behind an online confessional that is soliciting donations. With Brendan's aid, he soon finds the culprit. Everyone is puzzled by the sudden disappearance of Brian Quigley. When Liam and Donal find Brian's clothes folded neatly at the shore, many in BallyK assume the worst. Niamh returns to learn just how bad her father's financial situation really was but an anonymous letter gives her a good idea of what's going on. Frankie Sullivan decides to take Siobhan's advice and toughen up her approach to being a Gard. Siobhan soon decides she's created a monster.

Gard Frankie Sullivan is still presenting a rigid exterior in her dealings with the citizens of BallyK and arrests Father Sheahan for drunk driving. As well, Father McAnally isn't too keen with having a curate as a pub owner and suggests that Father Sheahan should be more concerned about where he is going to live now that Brian Quigley's property, which he let the Church use at no charge, is owned by the bank. Paul Dooley isn't too keen about their current situation at the pub and thinks he up a scheme to make some money. He thinks he knows where he can get the 'investors'. Siobhan is fed up taking her child with her on calls and insists that Brendan take a more active role in taking care of their daughter.

The Cat and Daddy G.

Avril Burke is at her wits end as to what to do with her horse, The Cat. She had hoped to race her but is proving to be something of a dud at the track. She can't sell her for a decent price either, as the horse's reputation is now well known. Things take a change for the better when, strangely, the horse seems to take a liking to Grainne Dooley's new pet goat, a birthday gift, which she has named Daddy G. No one can explain it, but the horse clearly performs better when Daddy G is around. Which of course leads to a bit of skulduggery on the part of some of the locals. Father Sheahan meanwhile faces a dilemma when a man confesses to having beaten a woman, now comatose in hospital. The police suspect the woman's husband of having beaten her and may arrest him. Father Sheahan however cannot reveal anything he's heard in confession.

Spirit Proof

Mysterious occurrences are the norm in Ballykissangel these days. It starts with Brendan's fishing bag mysteriously disappearing and is followed by bats in the cellar and the sound of an unseen horse galloping in the woods. It all starts when Paul Dooley learns that the owner of the pub also owns the fishing rights to the stream and decides it might be a moneymaker. Several have warned him of curses and other eerie past events when anyone tried to exercise those rights but he dismisses that out of hand until he begins to have his own strange encounters. Meanwhile, Kathleen Hendley has won a car and decides to take driving lessons, much to the chagrin of many of Ballyk's residents who now have to be extra careful crossing the street.

Paul Dooley Sleeps with the Fishes

Paul Dooley still hasn't re-paid the £20,000 he owes Liam and Donal and they have let him know in no uncertain terms that he will be 'sleeping with the fishes' if he doesn't come through soon. He tries to get a loan from the bank but is already stretched thin having purchased the house that Father Sheahan occupies from Brian Quigley's estate. His wife Oona doesn't appreciate Donal and Liam's attitude and soon realizes that there is something going on with the boys. She's also decided the time has come to change the name of the pub, but meets with less enthusiasm that she had hoped for. Avril Burke is sent for a loop when she sees that her ex-husband is staying at the pub with an attractive woman. Father Sheahan can see that she's in crisis but she refuses his help, saying he can'f possibly understand what she is going through, She learns otherwise.

Getting Better All the Time

Barry, an old friend of Vincent's arrives in Ballykissangel with his girlfriend, Lyn. Barry and Lyn want to get married and Vincent has agreed to conduct the service. But it turns out that Barry has been married before and therefore can't be married again in the eyes of the church. Dooley has leased some land and a consortium want to build on it. While Liam and Donal are clearing the land, they discuss what they are going to do with the money they retrieved from Dooley. Liam suggests investing in Avril's horse, The Cat, as part of a syndicate. Vincent goes to Avril for some advice about marrying Barry and Lyn and she suggests that he doesn't want to upset Father Mac. This comment touches a raw nerve in the priest and he goes to ask Fr. Mac a second time. His reaction is the same: he forbids Vincent to marry them. Lyn feels ill and goes to see Doc Ryan. She is shocked when he tells her that she is pregnant.

Father Mac is appalled when he learns of the wedding Father Sheahan officiated, Paul gets a tempting offer and someone is found taking cannabis from a nearby field.
