It's the morning after the night before and Niamh and others are recovering from the bonfire and party at Sean Dillon's house. She's made up her mind about her future and desperately wants to tell Ambrose of her decision but he's busy. They agree that they will speak that evening. Ambrose saw how happy she was at the party and knows what she has to tell him. Brian Quigley is interested when he learns that a Frenchman has issued a challenge for a balloon race, one that would pay the winner a tidy sum. He's not quite prepared to fly in it himself however. Niamh expects the worst when Superintendent Foley tells her that Ambrose has had a serious fall.

All in Ballykissangel are coming to terms with the recent tragedy. Niamh is racked not only with sorrow but with guilt over the decision she had made. Father O'Connell's words at the funeral service are comforting to all but it is clear that it will take time before she is well. she is also unable to even speak to Sean Dillon and asks him to stay away. Eamon and Danny Byrne decide to raise pigs and start building a pen to house them. Unfortunately, he hires Liam and Donal to help them out. Orla is on the move when she sees that a nearby cottage is available for rent from Conor Devlin, who recently rescued her and Brian Quigley from the sea. She's not quite prepared for country life however.

Liam and Donal head to the beach when Brian Quigley gives them £50 to buy sand for one of the traps at the golf course. They recover a large wooden crate filled with tins marked in a foreign language. They're not sure what it is but the cat definitely likes it. Kathleen sets them straight and they set off to make their fortune. They also have to deal with the notorious O'Regan family. Niamh is still miserable but decides to open the pub to keep herself busy. She comes to a decision about her future in BallyK. Orla and Conor go out on a date.

With Niamh having decided to leave Ballykissangel, Brian Quigley agrees to put the pub up for sale. He thinks he has a buyer, a retired civil servant, but the locals wonder just what will happen to their local when it's sold. Emma has a fight with her dad and moves out. She first moves in with Danny but they too quarrel and she ends up asking Orla if she can stay. Emma's enthusiasm at helping redecorate Orla's cottage doesn't go over very well. Father O'Connell meanwhile is in a bit of a pickle when it's time for the parish's accounts to be submitted. Kathleen helps him out, in more ways than one.

Niamh is having a particularly hard time of late. It' Kieran's 4th birthday and not only has she not got him the puppy he's asked for but Ambrose's mother Imelda has come for a visit. Niamh begins to reconsider her decision about the puppy but it would likely mean a visit to Sean who has a litter of them available. Orla arranges a fishing expedition on Connor's boat where the special guest will be the editor of a famous fishing guidebook. She hasn't discussed it with Conor ahead of time and he hopes she's got it right or his business is done for. Well, pretty well everything that could go wrong does. Brian Quigley meanwhile thinks he's in line to make a small fortune when he approached by an Australian proposing to buy the deed to an old gold mine. All he has to do is prove that it's his ancestor who owned it. He's so caught up in the situation he doesn't question the fact that he's asked to put up a rather large sum at the last minute to file some paperwork.

As Niamh moves out of Fitzgerald's to begin her new life in Dublin, Paul Dooley, an old enemy of Brian Quigley, moves in with his wife Oonagh and their two children. In the meantime, Conor's attempts to arrange a romantic date for Orla go terribly wrong.

Brandon had submitted his application for the Headmaster position at his school but when he learns that a Christian Brother has also applied, assumes the fix is in and withdraws his name. Sean and others get him to change his mind however. He then sets out to try and influence the selection committee, including Father Aidan O'Connell and Brian Quigley. Orla meanwhile quits working at Fitzgerald when she finds herself constantly getting conflicting orders from Oonagh and Paul Dooley. Paul has also taken to refilling the barrels with the slop and she wants nothing to do with it. Paul has also decides to let out a room in the pub and but hires Donal and Liam to redecorate it. Danny's sow is about to produce a litter and Danny is pacing the barn floor like a first-time father.

Uncle Minto makes a return visit and has a business proposition for Donal and Liam. Soon they're buying up sugar and potatoes, much to the locals' quizzical looks. Uncle Minto tries to get Paul Dooley to try the product and with business being slow at the pub, he's looking for something to drum up business. It's also time for the school fete and Brendan, as the new Headmaster, has to organize it all. Problems mount throughout the day as several volunteers fail to show up. The Doolan children decide there're going to enter the pet competition with a goat they've borrowed from a local farmer. An attractive young woman, Frankie Sullivan, arrives in Ballykissangel and takes a room at the pub. Siobhan visits an unhappy Niamh in Dublin

Paul Dooley gets 50 hours of community service for selling illegal whiskey and he soon has Uncle Minto, Donal, Liam and Danny giving him a hand at redecorating the school gymnasium. Orla is tired of Conor always being around and when he announces that he is going to take a job in Spain, she thinks her lack of interest may be pushing him away. Brian Quigley gets Donal and Liam to trim the trees at the golf course. They get just a bit carried away. Brian is also feeling just a bit lonely and misses Niamh and Kieran terribly. The new Garda, Frankie, is having trouble fitting in to the community, or so she thinks.
Episode 10

Father O'Connell tries to start a choir. He has trouble getting anyone to even show an interest but slowly, several of the townsfolk sign up. Mairead Reilly, a teenager who doesn't go to church, has a lovely voice but her mother Maureen holds a grudge against Father McAnally and it's highly unlikely she'll let her join anything that's affiliated with church. Orla decides to make use of Brian Quigley's house while he's away but soon has Donal and Liam hanging around. As for Sean, it's the second anniversary of his wife's death and his daughter Emma urges him to get on with his life.

Mairead starts coming to Church and asking Father O'Connell for some advice about her singing. It isn't the music that she's interested in however. She desperately wants to join the raft race he's arranged but when her mother refuses to sign the permission slip, Mairead takes matters into her own hands. She does make a misstep however. Having decided to get married, Sean and Niamh now have to let everyone in town know. They start by telling Donal and Liam but asking them to keep quiet about it, figuring the word will spread like wildfire. Soon however, Sean is beginning to have second thoughts as he's not sure he can continue living in Ballykissangel. Liam and Donal decide to try and make a bit of money by plating the horses. They're quite successful, for a little while at least.

It's time for Niamh and Sean's wedding and although they professed to want a small ceremony and reception, Brian Quigley hopes plans to have over 100 guests with the Dooleys and Fitzgerald's providing the meal. The bride and groom are getting nervous as the day approaches but their biggest worry is how to tell Brian that they're going to be moving to London after the honeymoon. Meanwhile, the ladies of Ballykissangel take Niamh out for her Hen Night and one of them proves to be the surprise of the party. Uncle Minto arranges for a special Celtic stag party for Sean but Liam and Donal make their own arrangements. On the day of the party, Paul and Oonagh serve at the reception leaving the children at home. When a bus load of tourists pull up, they take the initiative. Paul also welcomes an old friend from prison, Mickeyo, who claims to be selling Internet café franchises. Oonagh's very interested but Paul isn't convinced their not getting scammed. Frankie and Aidan meanwhile try to locate a reckless driver.
