Episode 1

Many weeks have passed since Ba Sing Se has been seized by the Fire Nation. Aang finally wakes up from his coma after being shot down by Azula and he meets up with his friends on a Fire Nation vessel. Meanwhile, Zuko is welcomed back by the Fire Nation after his three year exile, he begins to feel uneasy about his return, Zuko assumes that Aang is still alive. Aang runs away from his friends again, he is stranded in the middle of the ocean during a storm. Aang is still upset that he failed to restore balance to the world, but Roku tells Aang that he should've prevented Sozin from starting the war and he convinces Aang that he can still redeem himself. Yue encourages Aang not to give up because the world still needs the Avatar to put an end to the war. Moved by Roku and Yue's words of encouragement, Aang makes it to the Crescent Island, where the Fire Temple was once there. Aang reunites with his friends, but he decides to burn his broken glider and keep his status a secret for the time being.

Piandao challenges Sokka to a duel, and he believes Sokka is a worthy swordsman. Piandao tells Team Avatar that the way of the sword does not belong to one nation. Meanwhile, in prison, Iroh decides to body build in secret.

On a forced vacation, Zuko, Azula, Ty Lee and Mai try to blend in with normal teenagers and learn about themselves and one another. Aang and company are attacked by an ominous assassin.

Aang and Zuko both learn about how the war has started. Aang learns about Roku's history and life long friendship with Sozin. Zuko begins to learn about his paternal great-grandfather's history. Both Aang and Zuko discover that Roku and Sozin's friendship fell apart when Sozin wanted to expand his nation to further his personal agenda. Zuko confronts Iroh in prison and he soon realizes that his maternal great-grandfather is Avatar Roku. Iroh tells Zuko he can still do the right thing by redeeming the Fire Nation's honor and undo his family's past sins to the world. Iroh gives Zuko a long lost Royal artifact which is a Royal headpiece that was previously worn by Sozin when he was the crown prince and he gave it to Roku when he became the Avatar.

Toph, Aang, and Sokka have found a quick way to make money in order to buy supplies by scamming the village's rigged games, but their actions lead to disastrous consequences when Toph gets into an argument with Katara after she learns that she is on a wanted poster. Katara wants to show Toph that she can be fun by doing one final scam with her, but the two are arrested and the Combustion Man ambushes them. Aang and his friends are able to escape the Combustion Man. Toph and Katara reconcile, and she asks Katara to write a letter to her parents, which Hawky delivers. Sokka asks his friends where Hawky went.

Katara and her friends meet Hama, a water bender from the Southern Water Tribe and an old friend of Kanna. Team Avatar begins to realize that Hama has harbored a very dark secret, it is soon discovered that Hama has been capturing innocent Fire Nation villagers and she has learned a very dangerous form of bending when she was imprisoned by the Fire Nation, which is blood bending. Katara and her friends try to stop Hama from harming any more people. Katara reluctantly uses blood bending against Hama to stop her from hurting Aang and Sokka. Hama is soon arrested for kidnapping and false imprisonment, she praises Katara for being a blood bender. Aang and Sokka comfort a distraught Katara over her predicament.

Zuko makes a decision that may affect his future with the Fire Nation. Aang and his friends reunite with their old allies in hopes of stopping the Fire Nation on the day of the eclipse and put an end to the war. When Aang and his friends reach the Fire Nation capitol it is soon discovered that Ozai and the rest of the inhabitants have anticipated the upcoming eclipse.

Episode 11

Aang discovers the Fire Lord and the rest of the inhabitants at the capitol have evacuated, they are hidden in a underground bunker. Aang, Sokka, and Toph confront Azula, but she continues to stall. Azula brings up Suki, causing an angry Sokka to confront the crown princess for imprisoning his girlfriend. Azula refuses to give away Suki's whereabouts and she escapes. Meanwhile, Zuko confronts his father in his underground bunker and he adamantly tells his father that he's done earning his love, he disowns his father for scarring him and for his warmongering. Zuko makes an even more important decision, he decides to help the Avatar and put an end to the war.

Episode 12

Aang and the rest of the team arrive at the Western Air Temple. The Duke, Teo and Haru run off to explore the temple while Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph discuss their future plans and the need to find a firebending teacher. Meanwhile, Zuko waits outside the temple, rehearsing his apology to Aang and crew. Back at the temple, Aang grows frustrated with the talks of finding a firebending teacher and flies off. Katara, Sokka and Toph follow on Appa and land with Aang in another part of the temple. Toph tells the group that Zuko is there, and the four confront him. Zuko tries to explain himself and when that fails, he offers himself up as a prisoner. Katara tells him to leave. The four then argue about Zuko, with Toph defending him. Toph grows frustrated and storms off to find Zuko. She stumbles into his camp at nighttime and startles Zuko who firebends at her, burning her feet. Toph, now unable to "see" with her feet, crawls back to the temple. Katara attempts to heal her feet when Combustion Man attacks. Zuko risks his life trying to distract Combustion Man, giving the four enough time to find cover. Aang and Katara both try unsuccessfully to stop Combustion Man and finally Sokka manages to hit his forehead with the boomerang, causing Combustion Man to blow up and presumably die. Zuko approaches the four and tries again to explain himself. He apologized to Toph stating that he must remember to control his firebending so as not to hurt others. Aang, remembering his own firebending experience, accepts Zuko as his teacher. Toph agrees to this so as to have plenty of time to get back at Zuko for burning her feet. Sokka agrees only because it will help defeat the Firelord. Katara reluctantly agrees only because Aang said yes. Sokka shows Zuko to his room, commenting to Aang that "this feels weird". Zuko pulls a portrait of his uncle from his bag and remembers his uncle's lecture about destiny. When he returns to reality, Katara is standing at the door. She threatens that if Zuko makes one slip-up, one reason for her to doubt his intentions, that she will kill him.

Episode 13

Zuko has joined up with Aang's group and is now ready to teach Aang fire bending. Unfortunately, Zuko has found out that he has lost his ability and must now relearn it. Zuko and Aang travel to find the original source of fire bending so that they both can learn from The Firebending Masters.

Episode 14

Sokka and Zuko take Zuko's war balloon to The Boiling Rock, described by Zuko as "the most secure prison in the Fire Nation." It is a structure located in the center of a volcano, an island surrounded by a lake of boiling water. Their purpose is to find Sokka's father, Hakoda, and free him. Instead they find Suki, a Kyoshi warrior, and Sokka's girlfriend. She previously helped navigate Aang's group and some refugees through the Serpent's Pass - and actually saved Toph from drowning after Katara's ice bridge was smashed by the serpent. Dressed as Fire Nation Guards, Zuko and Sokka develop a plan to escape from the prison. Working together to a common end, they learn to trust and appreciate each other's viewpoints and judgments. Just as they are about to escape with several prisoners, they learn that Sokka's father might be among a group of prisoners arriving the next day. Sokka, Zuko and Suki abandon their own escape and stay in the prison so they can free Hakoda if the possibility arises. The escaping prisoners are caught, and Hakoda emerges from the cable car gondola as the last prisoner in the transport.

Episode 15

The warden tortures the prisoners who were captured during their escape attempt and learns that one of his guards is a fake. The prisoner who gave the information points to a different guard, maintaining Sokka's cover. Mai, who is the warden's niece, confronts Zuko, who tells her that he is trying to save the Fire Nation, but she replies that he's a traitor. Sokka and his father think up a plan to escape from the island via the cable car, using the warden as a hostage. While the tortured prisoner creates a diversion by starting a riot in the prison yard, Sokka, Zuko, Haruto, and Suki kidnap the warden and make their way to the cable car. While the cable car is in motion, Azula and Ty Lee attack to stop them from escaping. When the guards on the island - ordered by a shout from the warden - jam the cable car works and attempt to cut the cable so that the gondola will fall into the boiling lake, Azula and Ty Lee flee the gondola, but Mai intervenes to save the escapees. She assails the guards jamming the cable car works and escape is a success. The escapees are still trapped on the volcano but find Azula's war balloon. They use it to return to Aang and the other young warriors in the Northern Air Temple.

Katara is still having trouble trusting Zuko due to what happened in the conclusion of Book Two. Determined to make amends with Katara, Zuko readily helps Katara on finding the person responsible for killing her mother, Kya. Aang tries to convince Katara not to take revenge on the man who took her mother, Katara refuses to listen to Aang. It is soon discovered that Kya lied to Yon Rha about being the last water bender and she was only protecting her daughter. Katara spares Yon Rha and she leaves him to grovel in his own pity. Katara forgives Zuko for his past actions towards her and her friends.

Episode 17

Team Avatar hides out at Ember Island, a small beach resort in the Fire Nation. Team Avatar goes to a play that is based on Aang's adventures with his friends, but Aang and his friends become disappointed when the play becomes inaccurate. Zuko is shown to regret how he treated his uncle, but Toph assures Zuko that he made the right choice on finding the right path. Aang begins to question his feelings for Katara, but he is still angered that his portrayal is being played by an actress. Katara is dismayed that her portrayal is played by an overly dramatic actress. Toph is shown to be satisfied with her portrayal. Sokka gives the Actor Sokka some pointers. During the play's conclusion, Team Avatar agrees the play was uneventful.

Episode 18

Sozin's Comet is three days away and Aang has been practicing his fire bending extensively. Zuko informs everyone that he attended his father's war meeting. Zuko reveals that his father is planning a mass genocide on the Earth Kingdom. Aang is starting to have doubts on how to stop the Fire Lord. At night, Aang swims to a mysterious island. Zuko and his friends discover that Aang has disappeared, they try to find him with the help from June. Fire Lord Ozai crowns himself the Phoenix King and he makes Azula his successor to the throne. Aang wakes up on the mysterious island now in the middle of the ocean.

Episode 19

Aang is on a mysterious island and he tries to seek guidance from his past lives, but they tell him to take out the Fire Lord and put an end to the war. Aang is still contemplating on how to stop Ozai and he soon discovers the island is a lion turtle, he gives Aang the forgotten form of energy bending. Meanwhile, June is unable to find Aang with no options left, Zuko decides to find his uncle. Team Avatar meets up with Pakku, Jeong Jeong, Piando, and King Bumi, they are revealed to be members of the Order of the White Lotus, Iroh is the grand member and leader. At the White Lotus Camp, Zuko finally reconciles with Iroh for his past behavior, but Iroh admits to Zuko he was never angry with his nephew and he tells Zuko that he finally followed the right path. Iroh tells Team Avatar that taking down the Fire Lord is Aang's job and he refuses to kill Ozai to gain power. Iroh tells Zuko that he has to be Fire Lord and redeem the honor of the Fire Nation. Zuko and Katara set off to stop Azula from taking the throne, the Order of the White Lotus decides to liberate Ba Sing Se, and Sokka, Suki, and Toph try to prevent the Fire Nation airships from destroying the Earth Kingdom. Sozin's Comet arrives and Aang is ready to face Phoenix King Ozai.

Episode 20

As Sozin's Comet burns through the sky, everyone goes to meet their appointed destinies. Zuko and Katara return to the Fire Nation to face Azula. Toph, Sokka, and Suki try to sabotage the Fire Nation's airship fleet. And Aang stands ready to face Ozai.

Episode 21

Ozai inadvertently unlocks Aang's final chakra, causing him to enter the Avatar state and Aang immediately confronts Ozai with a series of attacks. In Ba Sing Se, the Order of the White Lotus has successfully liberated everyone and in one final act Iroh burns the Fire Nation banner as sign that the Earth Kingdom belongs to the Earth King. Sokka, Toph, and Suki are able to stop the Fire Nation airships. Katara is able to defeat Azula by restraining her and she heals Zuko from his wounds. Aang is still in the Avatar state and he overwhelms Ozai with a barrage of attacks. Aang angrily berates Ozai and his forefathers' warmongering. Aang attempts to put an end to Ozai, but at the last minute, Aang refuses to kill the Phoenix King. Aang uses an ancient art and he strips Ozai of his bending. Zuko is appointed the new Fire Lord and he declares the war is over. Zuko confronts his imprisoned father in order to get information on his mother's whereabouts. Aang and his friends celebrate their victory at the Jasmine Dragon. Aang and Katara share a romantic kiss together.
