The Sweet Smell of Success

Grace Brothers are trying to cut down on costs, which means nobody is allowed to use the lifts outside opening hours and the staff have to pay for any lunch except the sloppiest, most common one. Therefore, the clothes department staff decide to all share the proceeds from selling Mrs. Slocombe's home-made perfume. At first, they try to keep it a secret from Mr. Rumbold, but after he has found out, he actually approves of the selling of the perfume. As he catches a cold and goes home, Captain Peacock temporarily takes over his duties and his office, joining his young secretary in making labels for the perfume bottles. However, his wife shows up, convinced he is having an affair with the secretary.

Conduct Unbecoming

Staff members have to sign the exact moment of their arrival in a book every day; this leads to some commotion, especially when even Captain Peacock, who normally presides over the operation, is forced to note down his delay caused by an excessively cavalier attitude towards the dumb but attractive secretary Miss Belfridge, which the ladies consider virtual infidelity. It gets more serious when Mr. Humphfries, quite unlike him, is since a while regularly late, and the colleagues no longer manage to cover for him but find out he's heartbroken by a row with his mother leading to his moving out indefinitely. His position becomes most precarious when Mr. Rumbold starts an official examination for missing money from the till. The search seemed a pro forma open-and-shut trial against Mr. Humphries, but ultimately it turns out everybody has had the missing notes at some point...

Memories Are Made of This

To promote sporting equipment on their floor, the ladies and gents department are temporarily sharing their floor with a golf expert from the sports department. While practicing their swings, Mrs.Slocomb gets hit on the head with a golf ball and loses her memory. While Mrs.Slocomb thinks she's still a little girl at school, the staff try desperately to hide her condition from Mr.Rumbold.

Calling All Customers

With sales down, once again, the staff have a think tank and at the last minute think of advertising on CB radio. And of course it's free, so Mr. Grace loves the idea. Once the staff decide to submit their own ideas, it's up to management to decide which story will be acceptable. But then surprisingly Mr. Harman's story is chosen and the staff are playing all the characters. Oh my!

Monkey Business

When the staff are denied their promised rise in wages they refuse to work and are rude to customers in order to get themselves fired. But then news gets around that the Japanese are going to buy the store so the staff decide to flee to Number 10 Downing Street and plea their case to the Prime Minister.
Episode 6
Lost and Found

Mrs Slocombe's famous pet cat Tiddles, has gone missing, its toy found by a well suggest the pussy drowned. Knowing how much she adores the cat and fearing the worst, the staff decide to buy Mrs Slocombe a kitten, and collects enough for Rumbold's executive discount to yield a pedigree Siamese. Her favorite, classy gentleman Mr Humphries, is elected to make the presentation, but Betty misinterprets his opening speech and the thrown-in bouquet as a marriage proposal and accepts. Not daring to put it straight in her present state of mind, Humphries finds himself the involuntary groom in an elaborate, tacky wedding charade.
