Episode 7

LennoNYC

Mon, Nov 22, 2010115 mins

John Lennon and Yoko Ono had renowned lives before their personal union, Lennon arguably more so as a member of The Beatles, but Ono in her own right within a niche circle as an avant garde artist, including as a performance artist. But when they came together, they endured a mountain of criticism, especially by the British press, who accused Ono proverbially of corrupting a now "crazy" Lennon. Ono, too, began to be shunned by her fans. To escape that criticism, they moved from Lennon's motherland of Britain - they then living in London - to where they felt more of a true kinship, namely New York City. Their life largely in NYC, but in the US in general, is shown. Especially in the early days, that move did not diminish their problems, from criticism regarding their latest creative endeavors, to the US government continually threatening to deport landed immigrant Lennon for his and Ono's vocal anti-war stance, to most specifically Lennon's substance abuse, especially of alcohol, to their marital issues despite Lennon, if being honest to himself, relying on Ono for his basic survival. Ultimately overcoming most of if not all these issues to some extent, they would face another more permanent issue in their lives in 1980.
