Sisters Laurel (13) and Milly (16) have everything done for them by their mother Natalie, who often falls asleep exhausted on the sofa before 9pm. The two girls are joined by their stepbrother Ethan (14) as they are left home alone to fend for themselves for four days by their parents. Cameras monitor them as they must put aside any differences and work together to figure out how to carry out the simple everyday tasks that they are not normally asked to consider - such as how to get to school, how to feed themselves and when to empty the bins. Will they cope? Can they take responsibility for not just themselves but for each other and overcome some of their fears and anxieties or will Daniel and Natalie return home to find their home and their children in complete chaos?

Alison and her husband Andrew leave their three children alone at home for four days to look after themselves. Their youngest two, 12-year-old Lola and 10-year-old Travis often fall out with each other leaving Alison at her wits end. However, Lola wants to prove that she is more capable than her parents believe. The couple's eldest child, 15-year-old Daniel, has Down's Syndrome but Alison thinks that because of the condition people underestimate him and she hopes that being home alone under arms-length supervision will see Daniel become more independent and confident.
