Switching between eras, Alcatraz focuses on the Alcatraz prison, which was shut down in 1963 due to unsafe conditions for its prisoners and guards. The show's premise is that both the prisoners and the guards disappeared in 1963 and have abruptly reappeared in modern-day San Francisco, where they are being tracked down by a government agency.

Fifty years ago, Alcatraz prison was closed, all inmates officially shifted to a more modern facility. In fact jailer Emerson Hauser was among those who witnessed dozens of hardened criminals disappearing mysteriously at once. He joined the FBI and heads a secret division to hunt them down now. The first target is Jack Sylvane, dubiously convicted and mistreated, who now exacts bloody revenge on long-retired deputy warden E.B. Tiller. The affair allows recruiting Alcatraz-obsessed genius Dr. Diego Soto and San Fancisco PD detective Rebecca Madsen, who seems somehow destined.

First Look: Alcatraz: The Complete Series DVD Unlocks Set Secrets

Alcatraz may have only lasted 13 episodes, but it'll live on forever in HD. Warner Bros. is releasing the series from cancellation jail and onto DVD and Blu-ray shelves Tuesday, and TV Guide Magazine has an exclusive first look at one of the features. The Fox show followed present-day San Francisco copper Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones), her sidekick "Doc" Soto (Lost's Jorge Garcia), and FBI bossman Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill) as they tried to corral the various prisoners who mysteriously vanished at Alcatraz's closure in 1963 and have just as mysteriously turned up in 2012. Alcatraz: The Complete Series includes the standard gag reel and deleted scenes, as well as a special behind-the-scenes look at what made this one-season wonder tick. The clip below shows the lengths the crew took to get the Vancouver set looking so close to the real Alcatraz, the producers couldn't tell the difference.
