Descendants of the deserted fishing village of Portlock, Alaska, send an expedition to see if the town can be safely resettled after being abandoned 70 years earlier by residents who fled a murderous, Bigfoot-like creature called "Nantinaq." On their very first night, the team members hear frightening noises outside their cabin, and later encounter foul odors, strange tracks and a creepy feeling that they're being watched by something they can't explain.

Settling into Portlock is leaving the team members distinctly unsettled, as they discover evidence of Nantinaq's hunting habits. Meanwhile, Keith and Ash visit a historian who fills them in Portlock's bloody past, which includes mysterious illness, mass death, terrified inhabitants and giant cannibals. Later, an old buoy the team finds on the beach is thrown high into a tree - which the men take it as a stern warning that they are not alone.

In eerie Portlock, the team continues to make shocking discoveries, including an ancient Sitka Spruce tree, over 50 feet high - much taller than any other tree in the vicinity - and a mysterious obelisk in the forest. They're joined by Noah and his dogs, sent by village elder, Tommy, and later, by a psychic medium named Polly who immediately senses death and a malevolent presence and flees as fast as she can.

The team looks for a source of fresh water for a new village, while trying to avoid Nantinaq's woods. At night, the team try to contact Nantinaq with frightening results. The uncertainty and fear are too great for Noah, who eventually leaves Portlock. Tommy is concerned about what is happening in Portlock and sends Frank (Guy) Berestoff, a tribal hunter and Portlock descendant to assist in the investigation. Bigfoot expert Ron Moorehead arrives in Portlock and assists the team by using vocal recordings to attract Bigfoot.

Bigfoot expert Ron Morehead weighs the team's evidence and declares that Portlock may be infested with creatures he believes are violent inter-dimensional beings that derive energy from trees. Guy has a negative reaction to the obelisk. Ash tries looking for Nantinaq from a hunting tree-stand. Later, the team stumbles upon a strange pit near the Spooky Tree, which contains historic artifacts, including a very old coin.

Keith visits historian Jeff Davis, where he learns about the Spanish laws and customs when taking over Native American lands. This includes the practice of raising monuments and leaving artifacts behind. And the fierce punishment for rebellion. The team searches for resources to feed a new village. Ash explores an abandoned mine with chilling results. Guy leaves a spiritual message for Nantinaq at the obelisk. Kyle leaves Portlock. Shortly after he leaves, Nantinaq makes a night attack against base camp.

Keith, Ash and Guy investigate the woods after the night attack at the Base Camp. They find what they think might have been a Bigfoot hunting blind. During the day, the team tries locating food resources in the waters outside of Portlock, when they collide with an unseen object. Ash and Keith return to Portlock for supplies and encounter locals who tell them about several shipwrecks near Portlock. Ron Morehead sends them a box of supplies aid in their Bigfoot search. After several nights of Bigfoot hunting, the team comes to feel that Nantinaq is stalking them.

Strange events continue when the team investigates what they think is a fire near the Spooky Tree. When they arrive, there is no fire. Instead, they find fog. Tommy sends a paranormal team to investigate the Phantom Fire. The head of the team is a demonologist, along with his wife, and a psychic. The psychic walks through the woods, visiting several sites where Keith's team had negative experiences. She finds a river of negative-energy like a spiritual fog, coming from the obelisk. The demonologist describes the entity as a kind of elemental demon. Keith and his team have the paranormal response team perform an exorcism using extreme methods. The paranormal team leaves Portlock, as Keith and his team stay on, looking for any paranormal activity. After a period of quiet, a carpenter arrives, to build a new cabin and test the cleansing ceremony. It may not have been successful.
