Scandinavian 'Poirot-class' super-sleuth Sven Hjerson had to retire from the police after a scandal. Returning by ferry to his Swedish home on Åland, he finds it impossible to shake off pushy TV producer Klara Sandberg, who wants to sign him up for her station's latest format. He stops keeping her at arms length as she assists him investigating the female corpse in his cabin. As the shipping line security officer is a uniformed female nullity, they look into possible amorous and business interests, but tend to find no motive or an alibi. A male 'suitor' suspect's fatal death aboard can't be coincidence. Ultimately, Hjerson assembles the remaining puzzle pieces, fitting into an industrial intrigue concerning an alleged miraculous clean energy invention.
