On September 28, 2018 in Spavinaw, Oklahoma, a retired US veteran, Michael Ward, shoots a wanted felon fugitive, Sean Allen (age 35) in the back. Allen was on the veteran's property and had allegedly previously stolen items from Michael Edward Ward. Allen's autopsy showed that he was high on methamphetamine at the time of his death. The legal system must decide whether the veteran was acting in self-defense or murdering the fugitive. The trial takes place in the Mayes County Courthouse, with defense attorney Misty Fields representing Ward.

Michael Winchester, Sr. (aka Mike) acknowledges that on January 30, 2019 in Clackamas County, Lake Oswego, Oregon, he strangled his wife of 30 years, Heidi Anne Winchester (aka Annie), age 50, and also cut her throat with a box cutter/utility knife to make sure she was dead. He claims that he was temporarily suffering from a medical condition caused by an illness in 2018. Their sons, Michael Winchester, Jr. and Blake Winchester support their father. The Defense Attorney is Benjamin Kim of Portland, Oregon. The Prosecution Attorney is Matthew Semritc. After a two-day deliberation, the jury gave the defendant the equivalent of a "not guilty" vote.

On January 19, 2017 in Athens, Ohio, tattoo artist Alex Andrews survived a shotgun shooting at his Brown Avenue home. The blast went through his kitchen window and hit his face, neck, chest and stomach. Andrews lost total sight in his left eye and partial loss in right eye. Two years later in 2019, a young photojournalist, Ramon Luis Nieves, age 26, was arrested and charged with the shooting of Andrews. Two 'Confidential Informants', who both had criminal records, told law enforcement that Nieves was the shooter, but Nieves proclaimed his innocence and insisted he was miles away in Columbus, Ohio at the time of the shooting. Nieves hired Akron-based defense attorney Maxwell Hiltner. In the end, Ramon Nieves accepted the Prosecution's plea bargain offer to serve 2.5 years in jail to avoid the possibility of a 15-year sentence if he went to trial and the jury voted him guilty.

October 2019, Ocala, Florida: Landlord Stanley Jensen shoots and kills his tenant Marc Bruss. Stanley Jensen claims that Marc Bruss was wielding a machete at him and that he feared for his life. The Lead Defense attorney, Jack R. Maro, and the assistant Defense Attorney, Shane Bachman, claim that Stanley Jensen killed in self-defense. Ballistics expert Michael Knox testifies during the trial. The Prosecuting attorney Sasha Kidney claims that Marc Bruss was killed in cold blood. The trial took place approximately 2.5 years after the shooting death, in Circuit Judge Anthony Tatti's courtroom. In the end, the jury finds Stanley Jensen guilty second-degree murder. He is sentenced to 50 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
