The Austere Academy: Part One

The Baudelaire orphans are sent to a boarding school, Prufruck Prepartory, overseen by Principal Nero, who plays the violin very badly and has ridiculous rules. There, the orphans meet new friends, Duncan and Isadora Quagmire, whose parents and final triplet also died in a fire. The Baudelaires are forced to live in the Orphan Shack which is full of crabs. They meet a spoiled girl named Carmelita Spats who makes their lives miserable. Their teachers make them learn useless facts about stories and measurements, and Sunny is forced to work as an assistant. But worst of all Count Olaf poses as their gym teacher.

The Baudelaires are taken in by Esme and Jerome Squalor of 667 Dark Avenue. Esme is obsessed with what's "in", and Jerome does not like conflict. Count Olaf once again catches up to them and poses as Esmes consultant, Gunther. The Baudelaires try their absolute hardest to find their friends, The Quagmires, back and save them from Count Olafs clutches.

The Ersatz Elevator: Part Two

After the Baudelaires find the Quagmire triplets, they discover that Esme Squalor isn't all she seemed. The Librarian from Prufrock Prep takes an interest in the Baudelaires and visits Mr Poe, where she meets Jaqueline who puts her in contact with Jacques Snicket. The Baudelaires lose the Quagmires again and think they are being kept in a box being auctioned off and labelled VFD. Unfortunately this turns out to be a red herring.

The Vile Village: Part 1

After having to leave 667 Dark Avenue, the Baudelaires are sent to a village called VFD that has too many unnecessary rules. Jacques and the Librarian follow. Unfortunately so does Count Olaf. He disguises himself as Detective Dupin, and Esme as Officer Luciana. The Baudelaires live with the Handyman, Hector. When the crows roost in the Nevermore Tree, they leave a couplet poem from Isadora. They do everyone else's chores as a cover for searching for Isadora and Duncan. Jacques and Count Olaf go head to head.

The Vile Village: Part Two

Jacques Snicket is found dead, and the Baudelaires are framed for his murder. Their punishment is set to be getting burned at the stake. They break out of prison and solve Isadora's couplet poem code to find Isadora and Duncan in the statue. The village chases them, and Isadora and Duncan manage to get to Hector's self-sustaining mobile home.
