A Helping Hand

Noticing that Mike is a poor typist with a defunct answering machine Laura decides to work from his office as an unpaid secretary, bringing in new furniture and new clients. In fact she brings in rather more clients than Mike can handle on his own and ends up joining him gardening in the pouring rain.

A Trip to the Dentist

Laura is terrified of visiting the dentist and Mike has to drag her there. To allay her nerves she is given a sedative which makes her very frisky and flirtatious. Soon afterwards the couple are house-sitting for Helen and Phil and Mike mentions how much he liked that side of Laura. They end up in bed together feeling loved up whilst watching a romantic film on TV.

Was That a Proposal?

The two couples meet up in a restaurant where Helen believes that she is pregnant though it turns out to be a false alarm. Mike has a proposal for Laura, that they move into a larger flat. She misunderstands and interprets it as a marriage proposal, which she turns down - but they still move into the bigger flat together.

The New Secretary

In her job as a translator Laura agrees to do a substantial amount of work for the suave Charles Payne so Helen agrees to replace her as Mike's secretary but gets very bored by the lack of things to do. When Charles makes a pass at Laura and insults Mike she sends him packing and resumes her work at the garden centre whilst Helen finds a new job as Phil's secretary.

Boulogne

Laura suggests that she and Mike should do something different but football and tennis are non-starters and they get told off for going on the swings in the park. When Helen and Phil invite them to a day trip to Boulogne Laura thinks they are only doing it to be nice and turns them down but changes her mind when Harry makes the same proposal though in the end they are all thwarted by the weather.

Furniture

After Laura and Mike have bought a huge sofa he wonders why she never brought any of the furniture from her old flat and is dismayed to learn that she kept the flat on in case they split up. Fortunately he is able to dissuade her from leaving and there is additional cause for celebration as Helen and Phil come round with their good news.
