A Dream of Splendor

Zhao Pan'er, who opened a tea house in Hangzhou, finally received the good news that her fiance Ouyang Xu was ranked third in national civil examination, but was abandoned. Unwilling to accept her fate, she vowed to go to Bianjing, the Capital, to seek justice. On her way there, she had to rush to rescue her good sister, Song Yinzhang, who was cheated on marriage and was abused. At the same time, she also saved Sun Sanniang, who had unfortunately tried to commit suicide because of her miserable married life. When Ouyang Xu learned that Zhao Pan'er had come to the Capital, he tried many ways to drive her out. Zhao Pan'er, Song Yinzhang, and Sun Sanniang decided to stay in Bianjing, relying on their own ability to make a fortune. After experiencing difficulties and various tribulations, the three sisters finally managed the small tea house into the largest restaurant in Bianjing. After an arduous struggle, Zhao Pan'er gained more insights, and also erased her hatred towards Ouyang Xu, and at the same time contributed a lot to the salvation and equality for the humble women in ancient times.

SPOILER: Zhao Pan'er, who opened a tea house in Hangzhou, was originally a courtesan due to her father's crimes. Luckily, she fell in love with Ouyang Xu who she thought she could count on for the rest of her life and was planning on moving to Bianjing with him and starting a new life. One day, a bunch of smugglers broke into her tea house while escaping from the pursuit of the officials. Pan'er fight alongside Sun Sanniang who ran the business with her and brought down most of the smugglers. Gu Qianfan who was a government official working on a case in Hangzhou saved Pan'er at a dangerous moment. Pan'er was being grateful at first, but after she found out about Gu's identify, she refused to serve him because Gu was from the same department that arrested his father. Gu refused to leave and taught Pan'er a lesson of staying low key in order to survive. Later, Song Yinzhang who was also a prostitute that played pipa came to Pan'er with her fiance Zhou She. Pan'er knew that Yinzhang was being manipulated by the man due to her strong desire of leaving her current work. She warned Yinzhang, but the latter refused to listen. No long later, Pan'er was acknowledged that Yinzhang went away with Zhou. She failed to catch her, so she intended to ask Yang Zhiyuan who was a local official for help, but just after her arrival, Yang's courtyard was filled with government officials and they were led by Gu. He was here to take something important for the government.
