The Big Chill

After the review board takes Billy's side about Owen 'striking his superior', suspending him indefinitely, the fate of the station seems utterly hopeless, with him moving into a desolate country house and everybody resigning to the impending demolition, except Marjan, who keeps getting arrested by Carlos as the machines move in. Some work in the other station, several transferred to the private sector, notably TK and his captain to an ambulance service. D-day for 126 is halted abruptly by a rare ice storm, calling all stations to unusual snow-related duties. Carlos takes veterans to a church shelter, only to find it collapses too fats to evacuate everybody. Owen finds a freezing Latino who resents being brought in despite a bleeding wound.

Thin Ice

Left home alone, schoolboy Abe wandered off in the snow and got trapped under the ice, but found by a senior couple who call an ambulance. TK's private firm sends him, Tommy and Nancy, who rescue the kid, but heroic TK also falls thorough the ice, incurring a heating syndrome making him strip and requiring hospitalization. Owen dismissed Matjans' claim eating humble pie with the board might redeem 126 and cauterizes the major wound of wandering Latino Manuel, who sneaks off only to reappear when he localized a group of illegal Mexican immigrants who duly fear him. Carlos teams up with Mateo, who insists to be deputized by his new team, rescuing Paul who is trapped under the collapsed roof of the church community center with a volunteer with major inferiority complex, dealing with panic on top of flooding and dangerous cables.

Marwani wanders around, spots Sheriff Martinez and runs after overhearing his walkie-talkie contact with the cartel. Billy offers Grace to have Judd promoted, she refuses help even when her water breaks, but he jumps in the car she foolishly drives stuck.

They find a radioactive corpse and trace a trail of deadly contamination around local 'trash artists'. Commemorating her husband's death a year ago, Tommy consults a medium, which called for rescue after a client grew 'tentacles' from the nose, and confronts a ghost signal claim by her kid daughter.

Owen ignores Carlos's warning against stickler APD sergeant Ty O'Brien, who absurdly orders clearing the freeway during a rescue, tearing up his ticket on live TV, so the station is persecuted with legal harassment 'by the book', potentially very dangerous for people in need. Owen hopes to clear the air by challenging Ty's champion inter-services softball team to a duel, although nobody at 126 is good at the game, so they must lure and recruit a most gifted doctor, despite an early run-in, which doesn't work out, but an instant rescue turns the page. Grace takes offense at an experienced, transferred fellow dispatcher who 'took her seat' but proves annoyingly capable, actually saving the day in the case of student Duncan Bettancourt, who calls hiding in a closet for his normally devoted father Ron, who is after him 'as a burglar' with a baseball bat, side effect of a concussion. Health problems hit both the 'new' dispatcher and the Strands.

In the Unlikely Event of an Emergency

Mateo helps his old 129 captain who reaches out to him after the death of his lieutenant, but got too drunk to properly prepare the funeral speech, afterward offering Mateo a promotion if he returns. Recuperating at home after his heart surgery, Paul admits he feels afraid to come back to work, but Owen, Judd and Tommy help him regaining shape and reapply to the CFD.
