Meanwhile, Owen meets new paramedic-in-charge 'Tommy' Vega following Michelle Blake's departure, a woman who turned over the household to her COVID-19-bankrupted husband Charles to earn an income by resuming the job, lacking confidence if she's still competent, but given a warm welcome. TK's patience runs out as his lawyer mother, who moved in four months with him and Owen throughout the pandemic, and Owen's verbal sparring crescendos. Dr. Barbara Jacobs finally has great news: Owen's cancer is in massive remission.

Owen later reveals that he is working with Billy and Carlos's father in order to finally track down the actual serial inside pyromaniac, who boasts he still has the upper hand, having planted the seeds for his masterpiece arson, including station 126. Carlos and TK are trapped during make up-sex at home when the house goes up in flames. Tommy finds 'too perfect' husband Charles Vega lifeless in a chair.

Hvaig proven his talent for management with major easy budget cut suggestions, Owen considers an offer to succeed Austin's retiring fire commissioner. Chaos ensues in all Austin when a powerful dust storm engulfs the city leaving nothing but destruction. Mateo, who was demeaned as probie by an incompetent bully captain, goes out of his way to help the victims of the storm while on a food run impressively, until Owen finds him and adds experience to his zeal. Tommy ponders whether to stay at home full time following her husband's death. Grace returns to the call center. The team's efforts to start to overdue renovation of 126 are cut short when cancer-recovered Billy Tyson announces he's succeeding and the brass closes 126 all together.
