The X Factor's third season has been nothing to sing about.
The Fox singing competition's latest judges combination has earned tepid reviews (see: Paulina Rubio), has hit new series lows in the ratings and even suffered an embarrassing technical snafu a few weeks back when it printed the wrong numbers to vote and had to give performers a second night to sing for their lives.
Should The X Factor just die already?
But despite all that, Entertainment Weekly reports there is early talk of the show earning a Season 4 renewal. The magazine reports that a shortened season, possibly similar to Dancing with the Stars' transition from a two-night-a-week to a one-night-a-week format. Part of Fox's reasoning for bringing back the competition is that although the show's ratings have slipped, the show's viewership (7.3 million viewers and a 2.4 rating the adults 18-to-49 demographic) is still notably higher than many of Fox's freshman series.
However, EW reports that unlike past years where The X Factor earned an early renewal, the decision won't be made one way or another until the season ends.
