He reportedly died in his sleep
Tony Lara, a veteran crab catcher who appeared on Discovery's Deadliest Catch, died early Saturday morning at a home in Sturgis, S.D., The Associated Press reports. He was 50.
Lara was seen on Deadliest Catch as the captain of the crabbing boat Cornelia Marie, brought in to help Josh Harris after Captain Phil Harris died. Prior to that, he ran his own freighting business. He was in Sturgis to attend a motorcycle rally over the weekend.
Deadliest Catch broke the news of Lara's passing on Twitter Sunday. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine Lara's cause of death.
