Brazilian racer Tony Kanaan captured the Indianapolis 500 crown on Sunday — his first win and 12th attempt at the prize.

Kanaan, well-liked among fans and a well-traveled driver, is the only competitor to lead the Indy 500 in each of his first seven races. He doused his face in milk after the race.

Twenty-one-year-old Carlos Munoz, in his first start, finished second, and defending IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay was third. Kanaan, 38, pulled ahead of Hunter-Reay with three laps left.
