Netflix just dropped an explosive trailer

Gabriel Basso, The Night Agent
Christopher Saunders/NetflixThe Night Agent is one of Netflix's biggest shows, so obviously the streamer has been working on Season 3 since before Season 2 even premiered back in January 2025. It's not hard to figure where that enthusiasm comes from — Shawn Ryan's thriller, based on Matthew Quirk's novel, is arguably Netflix's most surprising hit. The first season is one of the streamer's most-watched English language TV series of all time, and Season 2 had no problem occupying the No. 1 spot on the Top 10 in dozens of countries shortly after its release in late January 2025. This franchise could be around for a long time.
The Night Agent stars Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland Jr., a low-level FBI agent who makes his way into the top-secret Night Action organization after uncovering treason in the White House and saving the president's life in Season 1. In Season 2, Peter becomes a full-fledged Night Agent and stops a terrorist attack on New York City. By his side is Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), a tech whiz who has helped Peter since her aunt and uncle were murdered, which set off a series of events that led Peter into the jaws of the conspiracy. And of course, Peter and Rose develop a romance during their missions, but it's complicated by their jobs as well as by the assassins trying to kill them at every turn.
Now, as the calendar turns to 2026, Season 3 of The Night Agent is getting very close. Read on for the latest, including when it will premiere, what the new season will be about, and the thing that you probably want the most out of an article like this: a trailer.
We have a trailer! It's pretty vague about the plot, but it's got plenty of action, intrigue, and glimpses at the many new members of the cast. Check it out below.
Peter goes back into the field for Season 3 of The Night Agent on Feb. 19, 2026. Season 2 began streaming on Jan. 23, 2025, so we're looking at just over 12 months between seasons.
Here it is, finally. Just a few weeks before the season premieres on Netflix, we got our first real trailer showing off Season 3's action. This teaser is about as spoiler-free as a trailer can be, so don't expect a lot of clues about what twists and turns are in store. You'll get to spend some time with the new folks Peter will be teaming up with this time out, however. Check out the trailer below.

Louis Herthum and Gabriel Basso, The Night Agent
NetflixUnless there's a huge departure from the information we were given at the end of the Season 2 finale, the plot of Season 3 was plainly laid out on screen. After trading sensitive information about presidential candidate Patrick Knox (Geoffrey Owens) to Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum) in exchange for vital information on Rose's whereabouts (and the location of the lab making the chemical weapon), Peter inadvertently swayed the presidential election in Governor Hagan's (Ward Horton) favor, became Jacob's inside source in the government, and established a dangerous relationship that will continue in Season 3.
However, Catherine (Amanda Warren) informed Peter that his info swap would be used to help him in his new mission: to find out exactly what the nature of Jacob and Governor Hagan's relationship is. Peter will probably need to play multiple sides here, keeping Jacob close enough to him so he can learn more about the freelance information dealer and the soon-to-be president while also maintaining his duties as a Night Agent.
"Peter falls in the middle of an awkward and uncomfortable place — he's between two very powerful people that may be up to no good," Shawn Ryan told Tudum. "That will be an interesting question in Season 3: Who's really in control of that relationship — President Hagan or Jacob Monroe?"
After spending most of Season 1 in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, early episodes of Season 2 were set in Bangkok, Thailand, while the rest of the season took place in New York City. Creator Shawn Ryan told Tudum that Season 3 will be "an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride across Istanbul, Mexico City, Washington, New York, and the Dominican Republic."
More on Netflix:
Series co-lead Luciane Buchanan, who played Rose in the first two seasons of the series, will not be back for Season 3. The character was written off the series, which is not especially shocking considering she moved to California at the end of the second season.
Buchanan explained the situation in a chat with Deadline: "As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career — being a lead on a U.S. show from little New Zealand was such a whirlwind — the writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of Season 2. And so, we don't get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it's a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it's not a goodbye forever."
So it's possible we will see Rose again if The Night Agent continues, but she'll miss out on whatever adventures Peter gets into in Season 3.

Amanda Warren, Gabriel Basso, and Albert Jones, The Night Agent
Christopher Saunders/NetflixStar Gabriel Basso is confirmed to return for Season 3 as Peter Sutherland, but don't think that will be automatic in every season moving forward. Speaking with Variety in January 2025, Basso hinted that his days as an actor might be over soon, at least for a while.
"I'm probably going to take a break. ... And it would be doing the audience a disservice if every season, [Peter] was fine," Basso told Variety. "At some point, the audience would be like, I get it now. No one wants to see someone who's untouchable. When you're watching the Captain America movie, you know Captain America's not going to die."
Peter may be more vulnerable this time around, because Basso's co-lead, Luciane Buchanan, is not going to appear in Season 3, even though her character, Rose, has been such an integral part of the first two seasons. As Season 2 ended, Peter was given an even more dangerous and more top-secret mission, while Rose left for California to pursue more of her career in tech. While it's not necessarily a permanent exit, Rose won't be a part of the story in Season 3.
Meanwhile, a bunch of supporting cast members are confirmed to return. Deadline reports that Fola Evans-Akingbola will return as Chelsea Arrington and has been promoted back to series regular — Evans-Akingbola was a regular in Season 1 but only appeared briefly in Season 2. Ward Horton, who plays Governor Hagan, has also been promoted to series regular, as has Albert Jones, who plays Deputy Director Aiden Mosley.
Louis Herthum is returning as information dealer and government string-puller Jacob Monroe. Amanda Warren, who debuted in Season 2 as Peter's new handler, Catherine, is also reprising her role.
Netflix has also announced new cast members coming to Season 3, and they're some of the show's biggest names yet. According to Deadline, David Lyons (The Cape) will play a former spy, Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time) will play the first lady, Stephen Moyer (True Blood) will play an assassin, and Genesis Rodriguez (Lioness) will play a reporter. Child actor Callum Vinson (Chucky) has also joined the cast.
Back in June 2024, The Night Agent creator Shawn Ryan signed a four-year deal with Netflix, Deadline reports, which successfully lured him away from Sony. So what, you say? Well, that means good things for The Night Agent; in addition to the third season renewal, it's theorized that Netflix might expand the series' universe with spin-offs, just as Netflix spun off The Witcher and Bridgerton.
While we all wait for Season 3, you can check out our list of other shows like The Night Agent to scratch the itch for more bingeable thrillers.
The Night Agent is only on Netflix, so you'll need a Netflix subscription to watch. Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming.
