One Battle After Another, KPop Demon Hunters, Sinners

On Sunday, Jan. 11, stars from the year's biggest films and television series gathered at the Beverly Hilton for the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. Nikki Glaser returned to host for a second consecutive year, once again roasting nominees and even making a bold dig at the news division of the network the Globes aired on: "CBS News: America's newest place to see BS news."
On the film side, One Battle After Another received the most recognition, including Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, Best Director and Best Screenplay (both for Paul Thomas Anderson), and Best Supporting Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture for Teyana Taylor. Chloé Zhao'sHamnet won Best Motion Picture — Drama, and Hamnet's Jessie Buckley was awarded Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama for her performance as Agnes Shakespeare.
Ryan Coogler's Sinners won the Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and Ludwig Göransson was awarded Best Original Score, though the category was not televised. The Secret Agent and KPop Demon Hunters also won two awards each. The Secret Agent, a Brazilian film from Kleber Mendonça Filho, won Best Non English-Language Film, while its lead, Wagner Moura, took home the prize for Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama. KPop Demon Hunters, from Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, won Best Original Song for "Golden" and Best Animated Film.
Netflix's Adolescence won big on the television side, taking home the prize for Best Limited Series, while Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, and Erin Doherty won their respective acting categories. HBO Max's The Pitt and Apple TV+'s The Studio also had strong showings, winning Best TV Series — Drama and Best TV Series — Comedy or Musical, respectively. The Pitt's Noah Wyle was awarded Best Male Actor in a TV Series — Drama, while The Studio's Seth Rogan was awarded Best Male Actor in a TV Series — Comedy or Musical. For female lead actors, Pluribus' Rhea Seehorn took home the prize for drama, while Hacks' Jean Smart won for comedy.
Heading into the ceremony, One Battle After Another scored nine nominations, the most of any film. The Leonardo DiCaprio-led action thriller was followed by Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value with eight nominations, Sinners with seven, and Hamnet with six. For television, Mike White's The White Lotus led the pack with six nominations. Adolescence followed close behind with five nominations, while Only Murders in the Building and Severance scored four nominations apiece.
