The Fighter Actor Sean Malone Dead at 54

His breakout role was in 2007's Gone Baby Gone.

Actor Sean Malone died Wednesday, nine days after nearly drowning at a South Boston beach and slipping into a coma. He was 54.

Malone is best known for his role as Wolfie in the 2010 film The Fighter, in which he co-starred with Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams. His breakout role was in 2007's Gone Baby Gone, where he played Skinny Ray Likanski. He was most recently seen on screen in 2014's The Forger with John Travolta.

The Boston fire department tweeted about what happened to Malone.

"9 days ago,off duty firefighters along with 3 men and others raced to rescue Sean Malone from the ocean and give him a chance," they tweeted Wednesday evening. "Sean Malone succumbed to his injuries this evening surrounded by his son Sean, parents and siblings at Boston Medical Center."

Boston reporter Mary Saladna tweeted about his death, offering condolences to the family, including Malone's brother, a Boston firefighter.
